5 Crowns with Susan & Josh, Marcia & Maury, HST quilt inside all together

Donald Trump raised alarm bells with his sluggish demeanor and slurred speech on Wednesday afternoon.

Popular independent journalist Aaron Rupar wrote on X, "Trump's face is drooping and his eyes are closed," sharing a video of the president.

Videos of the president with his head hanging down and his eyes closed spread quickly across social media. Users questioned how Trump keeps getting away with "resting his eyes" during important public events, without being called on it by his peers.

After getting sausage soup in the crockpot, I was at the longarm early Friday morning (2/27), hoping to get a couple of passes done on Iris’s quilt before leaving for my mammogram.

Well, that was the plan anyway, and my honey even delivered a smurfy breakfast to help me along:

but my thread started breaking and breaking and breaking :~(.  I didn’t even get through one pass before it was time to leave.

I was home from my appointment by 1 PM….and tried again with the quilting…..no go.  After so many breaks, I was so discouraged, I just worked on my new HST quilt by starting to sew the blocks into rows.

Around 4:30 I headed upstairs to put the finished touches on the Sausage Soup and pull together popover batter and get my dessert ready while my honey set the table (I LOVE my quilted tablecloth and am so glad I made it!!):

Maury & Marcia and Susan & Josh showed up at 6 PM and we settled in to dinner.  I got so many compliments on the soup….AND the popovers….AND the new cake I made for dessert that I had to be careful not to get ‘’the big, swelled head’’ (any other Mitford fans out there?)

We played FIVE CROWNS:

and there was a fight through most of the hands between Maury and Josh, with Josh being the big winner by the end.  We had lots of great conversations and lots and lots of laughter over the cards and we were sorry to see the night end around 10 PM.

Michael and I read our books for about an hour before heading for bed.

I should have been looking forward to the weekend…..2 days with nothing to do but quilt…and dinner already taken care of…but I approached the studio on Saturday morning (2/28) with dread. I did about 5 different things to my quilt sandwich, which had absolutely no effect on my breakage problem.  I think my thread is breaking due to the applique, but I can’t do anything about that except continue on and hope for the best.  But it certainly takes the joy out of the day :~(.

One thing that does bring me joy? Have I mentioned how much I love and appreciate having a huge design wall? This is what it currently looks like:

I did a tiny bit more quilting, with 2 breaks and decided I just couldn’t face it anymore, and dropped back to sewing together my HST blocks for the rest of the day.  Michael and I had leftovers for dinner and started watching season 2 of DARK WINDS (which I've found out is also on NETFLIX.....at least the first 3 seasons).

I came to the studio on Sunday (3/1) with a renewed commitment to Iris’s quilt.  I turned down the speed on my machine….pulled out additional yards and yards of thread and kicked it off, hoping for the best, but prepared to just keep at it no matter how many ends I had to weave in.  I got 3 passes done on the quilt and did not even count the breaks as it was too discouraging :~(.  I finally shut everything down and worked on my HST quilt, and got all of my blocks into rows, and all of the rows sewn together….YAY!

Michael and I finished up season 2 of DARK WINDS in the evening.
