Butternut Squash/Pasta tutorial, Metro Diner, white 4 patch started quilting

****************************************

I headed to the studio Friday morning (1/9) to get my butt in gear as I received 2 calls Thursday afternoon about additional incoming quilts!  I got the program set up for the snowman quilt and kicked off the quilting. I paused at 11 AM to do intake on another customer quilt…which happened in the middle of another ‘’argument/chat’’ with Amazon as they did NOT do what they said they were going to when we chatted on the 5th……So VERY  FRUSTRATING!!!

My customer was SO VERY UNDERSTANDING of what I was going through….and was very patient about waiting!  I still had a Christmas bag of dark dipped peanut butter cookies and she was very appreciative to receive them as a small thank you for all of the inconvenience.

I worked the rest of the afternoon on the snowman quilt, and by dinnertime, it was done:

My honey woke up feeling a bit punky today, so he didn’t go to his LLB luncheon…just laid low…drank lots of hot liquids and tried to get in a nap during the day.  By dinnertime at least he didn’t feel any worse!

I spent Saturday morning (1/10) working on my blog….I’ve had problems up loading my pictures for several days and finally broke down and contacted someone (always a trial) to get it resolved.  Once that was done and I got a new blog out, I got the bobbin ends woven in and my customer quilt off of the frame, and a new one loaded up.

Also, I have good news on the FAT QUARTER front….I decided to do a deep dive on all of my pre-cuts, since people sometimes give me some….AND I FOUND A PACKAGE OF FAT QUARTERS….. YAYAYAYAYAY!!!!   So, hopefully within a week or 2, I will be pressing and cutting those for the new pattern.

I worked on the latest customer quilt all day, and by dinnertime, it was done:

While that was stitching out, I continued to get those white/color 4 patches to a good size, and by dinnertime, I was finished with that top as well:

I think part of the reason I have so many tops in my ‘’tops closet’’ is that, besides forgetting to schedule myself in for long armming when I have a lot of customer quilts, I also just finish off a top, with not a thought of a backing.  And who likes to look for boring backings anyway…let alone having to piece one!  And I hate to use my beautiful ''good'' fabric for a back!!!

But, on Sunday morning (1/11), after I loaded up another customer quilt:

and while it was stitching:

I started looking through my stash for a backing for my latest effort.  I found some green I thought would work, and spent time piecing it, so that it was ready to go once XENA was once again empty.  I also got the ‘’label’’, embroidered on the front:

I finished up with my customer quilt around 3 PM, and since Michael was still out at the movies (ANACONDA….he had to use his free large popcorn coupon before the end of January!)….I got my latest quilt loaded up:

before it was time to head upstairs to start dinner.  Michael and I did a tutorial on our pasta/squash dinner:

-I started with 4 tablespoons of parsley butter (because I didn't have any sage butter) and 2 tablespoons of olive oil (to raise the smoke point of the butter)

-add in a large chopped onion and saute until it had some brown on it

-then 8 oz of baby 'bella mushrooms...sauteed until most of the moisture was gone

-then a package of cubed butternut squash, sauteed until a little brown. Then I added a couple of tablespoons of water and put the lid on for 8 - 10 mintues to steam the squash until it was soft

-added in some salt and pepper and a bunch of chiffonaded sage

-then 8 ounces of cooked pasta (for 4 servings)

-and finally served it with feta on top!

We watched SHREK in the evening….a thoroughly enjoyable movie!

I was up early on Monday (1/12) to get showered and ready to head to the library for the crafting group:

Although there were only 5 of us, we had a good time and many lively discussions on a variety of topics!  I have to show you Karen’s sheep….I wish I had taken a picture of it when it was ‘’naked’’, but she got the head done while we were there….isn’t this adorable?

When I came home, my honey and I headed out to lunch at Metro Diner:

-I've been craving a grilled cheese sandwich, so that's what I got

-as usual, Michael defaulted to breakfast

He wanted to be sure I told you that to make his breakfast extra healthy….he ordered 8 grain toast :~).

After that we made a trip to Best Buy for a ring doorbell (which Michael spent all afternoon getting installed and set up) and then a quick stop at Omaha Steaks (Michael loves their crab stuff fillets) before heading home.

I got the pattern set up and kicked off quilting on my 4 patch quilt:

While that was stitching out, I was also working on the newest QoV….The bottom rows are very close to the floor, and the kitties continually knock some of the blocks off, so I decided to start sewing that together, even though it isn't fully laid out yet:

We watched SHREK 2 in the evening…Michael said we must have seen it before as the DVD was opened, but neither one of us remembered a thing about it….it was delightful!

Replying to

YEs!  Definitely the one we were all working on.  It was a B_TCH to layout....so I simplified it...and the simplified one is the one M is putting up on the design wall.
