Customer quilt finally moving, Ethel

My honey headed out for golf on Saturday (3/25) even though is was very dark and raining a bit….and I finally got all of the strawberries processed before heading to my studio. First up, blog entry out! Next up…stop procrastinating and load up the customer quilt (which has been sitting since Wednesday!!!) Susie said it had been made in the 1930’s and would definitely benefit from custom quilting…and I agreed, but couldn’t talk my customer into that (not to be done by me of course, but I have a friend who does that). Barring that, Susie said there was a lot of blank/background area that needed something interesting going on. She looked at several edge-to-edge designs and finally picked out ‘’calm clouds’’…one of my favorites (BG, that’s what we did on our dragonflies). I have been procrastinating because there is a lot of excess fabric in the quilt, and I am going to have to monitor every stitch in the quilt to prevent pleats. That also makes basting difficult…but I put on my ‘’big girl’’ panties and got to work:

Of course…not without additional problems….the backing was not big enough for the quilt! I called the customer and we decided I would rip off the bottom row of the quilt and keep going. I also do not have enough backing fabric to make the binding, so she is going to buy more muslin and drop it off. BUT, eventually, I was moving along:

I think Susie picked the perfect pattern that adds a lot of interest to the blank spaces, without detracting from the Dresden Plates!

My honey wasn't home until after 4 PM....he got wet, then dry, then wet, then dry and it was raining....sunny....raining....sunny....but he came home with an 85, so he was happy.

I got 3 rows done on the quilt before stopping at 6 PM for a quick dinner (just a few mini-egg rolls) and binge watching 3 episodes of Will Trent (MONK for the 2020’s) for the rest of the evening....with silly kitty Ethel joining us:
