Fabric audition for first new bed quilt, dialysis quilt given out

Sunday (11/5) was a wonderful day….we slept in for just a bit (it was wonderful to get that extra hour of sleep), then Michael had a light breakfast while I got out the calculator to work on the blocks for my first king-sized quilt. I have several quilting UFO’s that need to be finished up, but I think I was getting depressed thinking about them, and how long it would be before I got to start something new…..and I was just sewing slower and slower on the first one….that QoV…..so Diane convinced me that I needed to intersperse some new projects amongst the old…and she was right!

So, I finally got the QoV into columns, and decided to figure out how many blocks I need, and maybe do a bit of cutting on a new project….the first king-sized bed quilt. I bought a beautiful piece of fabric at SEWENDIPITOUS when Diane and I went the other week:

and originally I was going to use it for a purse class that Gee is teaching at SHQ next year…..but decided instead that it would make a gorgeous bed quilt, with the addition of several of Corinne’s batiks. I love that the focus fabric has some black writing, as the pattern I picked has just a bit of black leading in it, and our bed frame is now black iron. I got the calculations done (correctly hopefully!) and started to look for batiks to go with the focus fabric. Normally I go for brighter fabrics (very LOUD as I’m sure friend Sandy would say :~): but to match this focus, I needed to look for more muted tones. There is a bit of pinky-coral in the focus….I don’t want a lot of that in the quilt, but in one of my stacks of batiks, I found a dark fuschia/orange-y fabric that I thought was perfect:

The purple in the focus fabric really has a lot of red in it, so that eliminated a lot of the purple I had…but in one of my stacks , I found 2 that I thought were perfect:

And then I found a 3rd lighter one as I need some lights:

Of course the teals were easy….since I have tons of those:

So...I think I've got all of my colors ready to go (I snuck in that one last dark purple)....

Michael left for his matinee performance (and how good can it get…he said the Sunday audience was the best of the weekend!!! Unbelieveable!!! The audiences just kept getting better and better.) I spent time in the afternoon switching around our nightstands in the bedroom, since we’ve decided to switch sides of the bed too!

And gratuitous pics of fuzzy kids keeping warm in the sun:

Remember the potato chip quilt I made out of the Ohio fabric bought on the secret vacation last year? Well, my friend was in a tizzy trying to pull together a dialysis quilt for a friend of hers….so I offered it to her…..here is the recipient with the quilt…I think she looks beautiful with it:

Absolutely LOVE the focus fabric..... I think because of the black writing ! Can't wait to see it.

Love the colors for the new quilt. When you were talking about the 2nd new quilt in previous posts, I wondered if i missed the first new quilt, I even searched a tiny bit, glad I did search too long.😊
