Iris's appliqued ghosts, SHQ Show & Tell

''At 6:22 tonight, at the Pinnacle Bank Expo Center in Grand Island, Nebraska, the room filled with red hats and shirts suddenly went quiet. A minute later, the President of the United States of America pushed through the curtain and emerged onto the stage with newly dyed hair and thick orange makeup. As the music blared through the speakers, he slapped his right thigh over and over again as he made his way to the podium.

Standing there, he said something so horrifying that it is difficult to believe the words were actually said by an American president. He looked into the camera and told Iran, the country we are at war with, that they should blow up one of two American cities, potentially killing millions of people. “It’s a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe. They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. That’s a very small price to pay.”

What the President of the United States said tonight should disqualify him from the office he holds. No president, or any elected official for that matter, should hold any position in our government after saying something like this. It should be immediate grounds for impeachment and removal.'' Heather Delaney Reese

What a totally disgusting and TREASONOUS thing! I cannot believe people cheered when he said this.....what is happening to America?

**********************************************

Monday morning (9/28) was the craft group at the library, and by the time I got home, Michael had left for golf with Ed.

I spent the afternoon continuing to ignore my longarm, and working on my HST’s instead:

I am beginning to wonder if my thread is just too old and is all going to start breaking……I am frustrated and nervous because I do not have a solution for that problem.  I do not do enough quilts each year to use up the thread any more quickly (although it seems I am doing a few more each and every year) and the only solution for that would be to really start to longarm as a full time business, something I do NOT want to do.

Also, I have a thousand or 2 dollars tied up in thread right now…..a depressing thought indeed if all of it is going bad.  I really have a dilemma now and am unsure what directions to pursue…not a good position to be in.  Guess I”ll be doin’ a lot of ruminatin’ over the coming weeks :~).  The most crazy thing is….I did the top half of this quilt before we left for Alaska WITH NO PROBLEMS!!!!  Then I come home and it’s break…..break…..break….. what happened?!?!?

********************************************

Tuesday morning (9/29) I got up, determined to finish off my pink/purple Kaffe flowers, but that got put on hold when Iris showed up.  She has appliqued all of her ghosts for her Halloween quilt:

and we spent the morning working on the sashing she will put between them.  I think the sashing will really help to make the quilt pop….but she has an awful lot of work to do between this week and next :~).

Once she left, I tried many more times to work on my Kaffe flowers, but I finally threw in the towel and took it off of the longarm frame and put it on top of the chair with the OTHER quilt that is having a time-out due to thread breakage problems:

I HAVE to work on customer quilts….not to mention that it is making me so depressed I don’t even want to do long arming anymore :~(.

Michael headed to the movies and I knit on his sweater in the evening.  I got the first sleeve attached to the body….so I felt like I finally had a tiny bit of success with my crafts!

**********************************

Michael left for golf Wednesday morning (9/30) while I was video chatting with Janice, after which I got Marvella’s quilt loaded up:

I kicked off the quilting and literally held my breath….and XENA started stitching like a champ…..NO THREAD BREAKAGE!!!

While it was stitching out, I got another quilt trimmed….remember I am doing two-at-a-time on the longarm with my 108’’ wide backing….so even though my pink flowers are on the back of the chair, waiting to be re-loaded some day, the top black/white quilt was fine…so I got it trimmed and on the to-be-bound pile:

and also got a label stitched out for it:

I left before 1 PM for a massage, which I really needed as I was incredibly tense and knotted up….probably from longarm problems!  Michael came home shortly after I got home….reasonably content with his 90, and after we talked for a bit, I headed back to the studio to continue quilting on Marvella’s quilt.  I would love to get it done today so that I could take it into quilting tomorrow for trimming….but we will see as there are 17 rows and it is not a particularly fast stich out.

Again, while I was stitching….I’ve been trying to get this potential quilt laid out:

I got 2 packs of charm squares at a recent sale, and have been wanting to try this pattern….but within the charm square packs are too many 5’’ squares that are very dark, and don’t work well with the black/white HST’s.  And once I separate them out, I do not have enough charm squares to finish this top…..so I dropped back to plan “B” on that….unfortunately at this moment in time….I don’t have a plan “B”.

I worked on Marvella’s quilt until 6 PM….and it was finally done and I was thrilled!  I got it off of the frame, all of the ends tied in and got it trimmed so it will be ready to give her tomorrow.

Michael brought home hot dogs from the ball field for dinner (and we both talked about how long it has been since we each had a hot dog!) and we both agreed they were excellent.  I got roll dough made and into the fridge, since Thursday is our pot luck at quilting, and while we watched TV in the evening, I got the second sleeve started for Michael’s sweater.

************************************************

Thursday (10/1) was all about quilting….Michael packed the car and off I went!  It was a wonderful day, and we had 2 new potential members visiting, both of whom are longarm clients of mine :~).  We had some lovely show and tell:

and a wonderful pot luck luncheon.  I got home after 3 PM and read my book for a long time before heading downstairs to get the backing and batting loaded for Paula’s quilt.

Michael and I played our usual Thursday night game of cribbage, and my cruise ‘’streak’’ is over…..my honey won!

And 10 years ago.....

I loved all the fabrics for your hst you showed at start of blog. Iris’s ghosts are adorable. Too bad about your polka dot charms, would have been very cute. The show and tell was really nice, I especially liked the small scrap one and the round one. Live catching up with you through the blog. Your thread breakage problem is frustrating, hope you find a solution
