We got home on Tuesday (6/24) and we were absolutely beat! Our lovely dog/cat/house sitter had left dinner for us, but we put it aside for another night and had our traditional welcome home meal....can you guess??? Of course....champagne and puffy things while watching WAITING FOR GUFFMAN and being very grateful to be safely home again!
************************************************
Michael got an ''offer he couldn't refuse'' for several nights of overnight accommodations in Williamsburg, and since we were already away from home, I asked if he wanted to visit ''the kids'' (Marc & Kate & AJ)...and thus, our road trip was born.
First up, Jamestown:

and Williamsburg:

We spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday there and our hotel had a happy hour every evening from 5:30 PM - 7 PM, with snacks and 2 free drinks. One night we decided to try a bit more exotic (and totally yummy) fare:

*********************************************
We left on Monday (6/16) for Pennsylvania and spent a wonderful afternoon (and dinner) with my college roomie and her hubby (the bad news is Debbie fell and broke her wrist the week before we got there!):

We've never been to their home and it was lovely to see it...and them!!!
*******************************************
We got up Tuesday morning and headed to our ''rail adventure'' in Hawley, PA! I have wanted to do this FOREVER....and my honey managed to find one along our route....it was FABULOUS!!! You are riding specially made ''rail bikes'' that pedal along abandoned railroad tracks. Our path was beautiful and peaceful:

-here's the midway point when we stopped to turn around after peddling 5 miles:

After that, we headed to Connecticut, where we stayed with Michael's sister and brother-in-law, Sue & Charlie:

We were there for 2 days and got caught up on a number of things...it was great just to sit and talk....but Wednesday night we met friends and relatives for dinner at REINS's DELI....a fabulous place with wonderful rueben sandwiches (of which I've been dreaming since we planned this trip!!!)
-Patrick & Larry

-Mary Jo & Laure

-Steven & BG

-cousin Diane, Sue & Charlie

-Leila & Raelene

After our wonderful visit, we were on our way to Trumansburg to visit with Marc and Kate and AJ, with some serious travel along the highway:

I think our trip to visit the kids is going to be summed up in pictures, or I'll never get this blog out!
-falls, falls, falls....I love them all!!!

And watching too many Hallmark movies brought me here:

They had a little park with benches and Michael and I sat there for over an hour, having a few snacks and reading our books...it was heaven and I could have happily sat there all day!
And last, sitting at a lake, on a swing (my favorite-est thing!!!) just enjoying nature

-an incredible quilt show that Marc kindly found for me.....these birds were absolutely unbelievable....the thread painting was a master class in shading and colors

-look at the reflection in the water....amazing!

-and the family....

And of course, a ''find the differences'' picture for AJ:

We even got to visit with an unplanned visitor on our way home.....we were up Monday morning (6/23) to come home and stopped at PERKINS for breakfast. I texted my BFF from high school to let him know where we were eating, as he talked me into bussing tables at PERKINS one summed on Friday and Saturday nights from 11 PM - 7 AM (I was already working an office job Monday - Friday from 8 AM - 5 PM....but he told me it would be fun to do it together...and he was right!) Anyway, he found out we were staying Monday night in Virginia, not that far from where he lived....so he met us for dinner:

I was a lo-o-o-ong trip, and we were very glad to finally get home on Tuesday.
BTW - I generally carry a HUGE purse and I swear it weighs 40 pounds (actually, I don't swear it....Michael swears it anytime he has to lift it). Anyway, I definitely don't want to carry that purse for our trip to Paris later this year....so I thought I would take one of my cross body purses to see how it worked on this trip. This turned out to be an EXCELLENT idea as I found out which things I DIDN'T bring that we both wanted....I made a list....now I just have to make a new crossbody big enough to include all of those things :~).
And 10 years ago.....

*** Hugh Hefner became a multi-millionaire staying home in his pajamas....I am not having the same luck. ***
*** I hate it when I'm talking to myself and suddenly realize I wasn't paying attention and have to start all over. ***
The thread paintng was amazing! Thanks for sharing these.
Those birds are fantastic.
Those painted quilt pictures were phenomenal!!! Your whole trip looks amazing.
What a wonderful trip. I'm really jealous. Al and I took one to the Pacific Northwest that was our dream trip but I would have loved to try one similar to yours too.
