As the nation mourned the killing of VA ICU nurse Alex Pretti yesterday at the hands of federal officials in Minneapolis, President Donald J. Trump spent last night at the White House at a black-tie private screening of a documentary about First Lady Melania Trump. Amazon paid $40 million for the rights to the film just weeks after executive chair Jeff Bezos dined with Trump at Mar-a-Lago following the former president’s reelection and is spending another $35 million to promote the film.
Then, this morning, Trump’s social media account posted a 450-word social media screed complaining about the lawsuit against his addition of a massive ballroom to the White House. Calling the National Trust for Historic Preservation a “Radical Left” organization, the account claimed that the addition “is being done with the design, consent, and approval of the highest levels of the United States Military and Secret Service. The mere bringing of this ridiculous lawsuit has already, unfortunately, exposed this heretofore Top Secret fact. Stoppage of construction, at this late date, when so much has already been ordered and done, would be devastating to the White House, our Country, and all concerned.”
There was much more from Heather Cox Richardson (an American Historian)....but I am too sick at heart to post it.

I headed downstairs Saturday morning (1/24) to get a blog entry out before settling into my day. After that, I continued quilting on Sandy’s 4th quilt:

and continued sewing together the approximately 280 blocks that make up the STARS QoV on my wall.
Michael headed out on errands (dropping off a small present to birthday Pam….so called because she and Michael share a birthday, and stopping at the golf club house for paperwork) and then continuing to the Lake House for a workout.
Birthday Pam dropped off some sour cream coffee cake during the day….I was thrilled….NO ONE ever offers me something baked and it was HEAVEN!!!!!
When I stopped at 7 PM, the quilting was done on Sandy’s last quilt, and my QoV was all sewn together…and trust me…given how I had to sew it and without the use of my design wall as Iris’s quilt is still there, it is truly a miracle that I did not make any mistakes in sewing together….for which I was very grateful. The pressing of my seams (open) will have to wait for Sunday! I spent the evening sewing up one side of Michael’s sweater so that he can try it on for sleeve length measuring.

This is what we woke up to Sunday morning (1/25):

Only about a quarter inch of snow, but it is sleet-y/icy snow….so no going out! Michael and I were happy to stay home, and the guys are going to try to set up their virtual golf at 11 AM.
I got Sausage Soup in the crockpot, and set out the ingredients for popovers (to come to room temperature since that’s critical to getting a good rise) before getting Sandy’s quilt off of the frame and trimmed, and got all of the seams pressed on my QoV. Then I got back and batting cut and loaded on my new QoV to be quilted:

I didn’t turn on my machine, but it is all set to go when the weather clears.
I found a pattern I want to do to use up leftovers of the blue with big stars, so I spent the rest of the afternoon cutting that out, and got most of it done.
Our dinner was HEAVENLY!!!! I love that soup, and the popovers:

were scrumptious!
I was looking for a knitting book in the evening while we were watching THE BEST MARIGOLD HOTEL and (with apologies to FIDDLER ON THE ROOF), Wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles, I found…..my ONE BLOCK WONDER fabric that I have been looking for for months and months!!!

I am so excited. About a month ago I finally put away all of the pieces (I have the top rows all sewn together….the bottom rows all sewn together, and each middle side piece all sewn together) because I could not go any further until I found the original fabric. I have been looking and looking and I can’t believe I didn’t scream when I saw it in the TV room….buried under things…when I was looking for a particular book (which of course….I didn’t find :~).
I always wanted the center panel of my OBW to be embroideries of the flowers in the fabric….but of course….once I made the OBW blocks, I had no idea what the original flowers were. I can’t wait to get started….I am SO HAPPY!!!!!

The sun is shinning and the temps are in the high 30’s, so I’m hoping our driveway and front walk will be all cleared off by NOON today (Monday, 1/26).
I headed to the studio to plug in XENA and get things going on my QoV:

Michael made breakfast for me around 11 AM, before playing another round of virtual golf with his buds.
By dinnertime (another round of sausage soup and fresh popovers):

I was half way through my QoV, and had all of my fabric cut for another project:

and had made LOTS and LOTS of 2 patches for a leader and ender project:

We watched The SECOND Best Marigold Hotel in the evening and I got one basket cleaned out in the TV room….YAY!!!

And I have a couple of QoV pics to share....I gave away this QoV at least 6 months ago...and finally got a picture of the veteran receiving it....YAY!!

And, my double stars QoV went to Iris's brother, who is a Marine:
