SHQ Show & Tell

This is what Republicans are wasting time on:

In Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s quest to nix all diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) content, some photos on the department’s website and online posts appear to be marked for deletion just because they include the word “gay”—regardless of what the context is.

One such case, the Associated Press reported Thursday, is a photograph of the Enola Gay, a World War II aircraft from which an atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan in August 1945. In the picture, pilot Col. Paul Tibbetts Jr. poses in front of the plane, which was named after his mother, Enola Gay Tibbets.

Another photo that seems to have been mistakenly flagged is the headshot of Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. A.C. Gay. Other such photos show Army Corps of Engineer workers, one of whom also has the last name Gay.

In total, 26,000 images have been flagged, according to the AP, though one official told the outlet that that number could reach 100,000 when considering social media posts and other websites. This person added that it’s unclear whether the database of flagged images is final.

Much of the material that does fall under Hegseth’s initiative celebrates heritage or relates to contributions to the military by women and minorities.

The overly broad net cast by the Defense Department is quite similar to what the Trump administration did last month to the Internal Revenue Service.

While trying to root out any potential DEI references in the Internal Revenue Manuals, unrelated content was deleted, like references to the “inclusion” of Social Security numbers.

*** Are they going to start arresting people soon for being gay? Or using the word gay? I wouldn't be a bit surprised :~( ***

My honey had an early morning hair appointment on Tuesday (3/4) and came home with breakfast sandwiches from SUMO DONUTS.  They’ve moved from their truck at the EXXON station, to the small strip mall on the left, just beyond Doby’s Bridge Rd, with SALON MANE at one end and a Mexican Restaurant at the other.  The sandwiches were just as incredible as they always were from the truck….I urge you to give them a try!!!  It’s a small, local business that could absolutely use your support!

I spent the day reclaiming some backing fabric:

This stuff is beautiful and I wish I had a bolt of each color!

After that I continued to work on cutting…I got all of my blue squares cut:

and started to cut and make the HST’s I need for this project.

My honey left just after 4 PM for a dinner meeting about neuropathy, and then went on to his monthly Mustang meeting.  I SKYPE’d with BG (yes….Janice and BG and I are now all aware that SKYPE is going away and we’ll have to find something else by May.  If anyone has other suggestions (for a FREE app, NOT ZOOM), please let me know.

After that it was TV and knitting.

I SKYPE’d with Janice Wednesday morning (3/5), then had my honey’s dinner leftovers for breakfast (a turkey and swiss sandwich with sweet potato fries) before heading to the studio to continue to work on HST’s.  By the time I quit, I had all of them done:

and my large background squares cut and all packaged up for another project for QUAP in case I would need one:

Thursday (3/6) was all about quilting….we had some very nice show and tell:

-this was the class Diane taught in January

-isn't this phenomenal?????

-the start of a commissioned piece

-what June does with all of the triangles we give her....

-incredible!!!!!

and a fabulous pot luck lunch before continuing with our sewing.

When I got home close to 4 PM (after stops at the library and the bank), I was good for absolutely nothing except a nap in the living room, then dinner and TV watching for the rest of the evening :~).

And 10 years ago...

*** Sometimes I just want someone to hug me and say ‘’I know it’s hard….you’re going to be ok…..here is chocolate and 6 million dollars. ***

*** You know you're over 60 when you have 'upstairs Tylenol' and 'downstairs Tylenol'.  ***
