SHQ Show & Tell, car show, Laura & Dave

tRUMP has already spent $60 million on his birthday....

At 11:16 this morning, Gavin Newsom, the governor of California and the man responsible for the fourth-largest economy in the world, released a statement standing at a podium with American flags on one side of him and the California state flag on the other. During the 4-minute and 42-second video, he was direct and controlled, yet still struggled to contain his anger because the message he was delivering should never have to be said in the United States of America, especially not by a governor elected to serve the people of his state. He was seething. And the warning he delivered was not just for California. It was a warning for all of us, and one we need to hear before it is too late.

What Newsom stepped up to the camera to talk about was this. The Department of Justice has opened an investigation into him and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom. He did not soften it or dress it up. He said that in recent days federal agents have knocked on the doors of family, friends, and former employees. And then he said the sentence that explains everything that comes after it: “They have not found a crime, they are simply trying to find one.”

tRUMP is a thoroughly despicable human being....

At quilting on Thursday (6/12), I taught the second part of my Arrow Quilt class.  I really do love teaching people anything that I know…and I get a lot of joy from teaching people who come to class with their ‘’homework’’ done, and an attitude of wanting to learn.  I know Scrap Happy is a social environment, but I appreciate when my students try to set that aspect aside for a few hours of the class.  It is always very rewarding to see them get excited about creating something new. As the tops get shown at show and tell in the future, I’ll try to remember to point out which ones are from this class.  We just had a tiny bit of show and tell:

-I think this quilt is just so SHARP looking.....I love it!!!! I think it is a graduation present....

I relaxed and read my book for a bit when I got home, and finally got a bit of energy to head to the studio to get my customer quilt off of the frame, and all tidied up, and I stitched out a label for it.

I spent all day Friday (6/12) first getting a label on a second customer quilt:

And then getting it loaded up:

and working on the quilting:

along with working with Michael on our Alaska cruise.

I know he really misses the gal he used to work with at Triple A to set up our vacations.  And calling the hotels is a bit of an exercise in futility….we seem to get people who are very hard to understand…and are very vague.  For example, we were looking for a shuttle to get us from the hotel to the ship….and the hotel employee indicated that they didn’t do that, but that there was a shuttle ‘’nearby’’.  How close is nearby?  Three blocks is pretty nearby….but I don’t see me schlepping my luggage for a 2 weeks cruise 3 blocks to catch a shuttle….right?  Anyway, after calling the cruise person….we found out that they can’t really help us either, plus, it is too early to book our 3 nights before the cruise in Seattle….so Michael is going to visit Triple A to see if someone else can help him.

We played cribbage in the evening (and of course Michael won!) while watching our shows on TV.

Michael left for a car show (he actually ended up going to 2 different ones, and ran into a golfer friend who had moved into assisted living at one!) on Saturday morning (6/13):

=his all time favorite car....

while I headed to the studio to finish the quilting on the kitty quilt.  I had a bit of breakage….I’m sure it was due to the appliques, but by early afternoon, it was done and I got the quilt off of the frame and all tidied up.

I did a thorough vaccuum of my machine, the frame and the floor and was ready for another quilt.  I have an unfortunate habit of loading of the backs of my chairs with various and sundry things:

Trust me, there are at least EIGHT projects on the back of that chair…..and it was finally time to remove one of them!  This is a quilt I started to quilt AGES ago….ran into a breakage problem…and had too many customer quilts at the time to worry about making it work.

So, I took it off and continued on with everything else I needed to do.  Well, I have no other customer quilts right now, and no backings for the other quilt tops in my closet, so I decided it was finally time to drag it back out and load it up and get it finished.  Well…that was the goal, but the breakage started up right away….and continued about every 4 inches….sigh.  So, I shut everything down again (after trying a few things to stop the breakage) and started to sew together the BQ revised QoV that Michael laid out awhile ago:

I was walking to the design wall to pick up new blocks, when I spotted this in the back yard….mom and baby:

I took a shower and did my hair in the late afternoon and we headed over to Laura & Dave’s

for Tripoli:

We met another lovely couple, Wayne & Joan

and we laughed the night away while we played….it was really fun.  Laura made a scrumptious strawberry shortbread for dessert…which of course, I never thought to get a picture of :~(.  We were home after 10 PM and read for a bit before bed.

And 10 years ago.....

*** Someone just honked to get me out of my parking space faster....so now I'll have to sit here until we're both dead. ***

*** I did some financial planning and it looks like I can retire at 97 and live comfortably for 11 minutes. ***

I burned 3,000 calories yesterday....that's the last time I take a nap while brownies are in the oven. ***
