SHQ Show & Tell, Charlotte St Patty's Day parade, visit with Janice & Dennis, 5 totally finished quilts

*** I've been visiting Janice and Dennis in Ocean Isle Beach since last Thursday....so make a cup of coffee and sit back and get all caught up! ***

**************************************

I spent a lot of Monday morning (3/10) pulling together 1-1/2 blog entries before getting back to quilting.  Michael was out running errands (grocery store & library) and enjoying tooling around in the Mustang!  By mid-afternoon, the quilting was done:

and I got the quilt off of the frame and got it all trimmed.  I also made the last binding I need for my visit to Janice which starts on Thursday of this week:

I spent the rest of the day pulling out patterns and trying to decide what I wanted to work on next.  I wasn’t feeling particularly drawn to anything, so it may take me some time to come up with a new project.  In the meantime, I certainly have a few UFO’s that I can work on :~).

*******************************

I’ve been giving myself a pep talk for several days…and finally Tuesday (3/11) was the day….TAXES!!!  Michael had a couple of appointments and some errands to run, and while he was gone, I got started.  I had to pause to wait for some info, so I pulled out one of my UFO’s…the first king-sized quilt I started for our new bed and got the second half all put together.  I’ve folded it up to take to SHQ next week:

it is a huge quilt and needs a good pressing….something much more easily done at SHQ on a large, rectangle ironing board we have there, than on my small one at home.  Then I'll just sew the center seam and that top will finally be done!!! That took the rest of the day, and when Michael left around 6 PM for the movies, I headed upstairs to knit and watch TV.

********************************

I SKYPE’d with Janice Wednesday morning (3/12) then spent a bit of time in the studio loading up a double length of QoV backing, before heading across the street for my massage.  I have to tell you…I’m very grateful that my phone automatically sets a 10 minute reminder for any appointment.  At 10:30 when I was done SKYPE-ing with Janice, I knew I had a massage at 1 PM…and at 12:10, when I started to load up my backing, I knew I had a massage at 1 PM.  But I got into watching a BROKENWOOD MYSTERIES on Acorn TV (I’m just obsessed with them) and suddenly my alarm went off!!!  I leapt up like a scalded cat, shut off the TV…grabbed my phone….dashed upstairs, shut the front door and penned Freya in the kitchen and ran out the door!  Luckily, the massages are right across the street and I made it with 3 minutes to spare :~).  I got home around 3 PM after a quick stop at the grocery store and finished loading up my QoV and made a start on the quilting….my chandelier quilt is relatively boring, with lots of background, so I got to use my variegated patriotic thread:

We had leftover Enchilada Lasagna for dinner, then vegged in front of the TV for the rest of the night.

I headed to quilting on Thursday (3/13) to teach the Disappearing 9 patch class.  My students did very well as you can see:

and we had other terrific show and tell:

I left at NOON to head to Ocean Isle Beach for a visit with Janice and Dennis.

I spent a blissful 5 days there…and you know what they say…while the cat’s away, the mice will play?  Well, my honey decided to participate in the Charlotte St Patty’s Day parade…and he was selected to be first in the parade with his decorated Mustang:

and drive the Grand Marshall!!!!!

That was pretty cool…except he said it was a 2 hour set up, for a 25 minute parade!

Several people asked what Michael eats while I'm gone....trust me...he's perfectly capable of fixing dinner for himself, but one thing he always makes is potato pancakes while I’m gone (I don’t like the smell in the house) and he said they were terrific:

The bad news is he usually invites his friend Larry to join him (Larry loves them as well), but Larry was out of town.

OK....back to Ocean Isle Beach.....we were set up within an hour of my arrival as per usual:

I took 5 quilts to Janice’s and got 4-3/4 of them bound.  I badly mis-calculated how much binding I needed for both of my brown stair step quilts, and even with a strip of brown donated by Janice, I was still 6 inches short….so only had enough to do 3/4 of the binding on one of them.

-this one was finished up once I got home....and will be a class at SHQ later this year

Janice was working on binding as well:

And then turned back to making blocks....when she makes blocks like this:

it makes me want to save all of my scraps and jump right in....but I RESIST!!!!!

I came home on Monday (3/17), and it was the trip home from H_LL!!!!! Unfortunately I got lost on the way home and have no idea how (oh…who am I kidding…I could get lost in a paper bag!!!)  Anyway, my 3-1/2 hour trip took 4-1/2 hours and I was useless for the rest of the day and night!

***********************************************

Michael and I both had eye doctor appointments on Tuesday morning (3/18).  Two good things came out of that….our field of vision is remaining consistent (yay!!), despite the glaucoma and our doctor is pregnant, so I will begin working on another baby quilt…I can’t wait.

We stopped at BJ’s and the bank on the way home, then I picked up Nancy and we headed off to friend Laura’s house to check out a bunch of donated fabric.  Nancy came home with a boxful, as did I and even BG got in on it as we FACETIMED and showed her a bunch that she said ‘yes’ to!  I was still kind of beat in the afternoon, so I just read my book and waited for the COMPORIUM guy to come (our internet wasn’t working), and when my honey and Freya got home from the dog park, we had date night with champagne and our favorite puffy things:

I’ve got fabric cut to make a stair step one at Quap. I love Janice’s green scrappy quilt and the pretty block she was making
