Soap making, rainbow heart, ice cream social

Staff of the Federal Emergency Management Agency were confused and dispirited on Monday after the acting head of the agency said during a daily briefing that he had not been aware the country has a hurricane season, according to three sources familiar with the meeting.

The remark was made by David Richardson (appointed by tRUMP) at the conclusion of an 8:30 a.m. daily operational briefing typically attended by hundreds of FEMA staffers and interagency partners. Reuters was first to report the comment.

Richardson, a former Marine Corps officer, has led FEMA since early May

It was not clear to staff whether he meant it literally or as a joke, but current and former employees who spoke with CBS News said the comment flustered many who genuinely believe Richardson was truly surprised to learn that hurricane season had started.

Others suggested that any joke made by the leader about the upcoming season was delivered in poor taste, offending agency staff already suffering from low morale amid a flurry of resignations, firings, leadership overhauls and polygraph tests distributed to staffers.

What in the world is wrong with these people? Just following in the footsteps of their idiot leader I guess.

Monday morning (6/3) was all about soap making:

-heating all of my oils on the stove until they melt. My lye is already mixed together out in the garage

Now, I used to make soap all the time when I was participating in the craft fairs here at SCCL and I used to sell quite a bit of it….but now I just make it for me and my honey (he won’t use any other soap!) and so it’s only every other year or so that I make it….so it becomes a whole process because I don’t remember what I am doing and feel like I’ve forgotten everything I ever knew about it!

Anyway, it is in the molds:

and we will see tomorrow if it worked!

There was a woman walking her dog while I was out in the garage stirring it and she asked what I was doing and she was all excited to come in and see it and ask a bunch of questions.  I took her name and phone number and told her I would give her a bar if it turned out.  I spent the afternoon in my studio, slowly sewing together the spiral quilt:

Michael and I had chef’s salads again for dinner, then he left for another one of those mystery 5 buck movies (it turned out to be THE LIFE OF CHUCK, which he really enjoyed) and I spent the evening knitting and watching MISS MARPLE.

********************************************

After Michael left Tuesday morning (6/3) for errands….I headed to my soap molds to check things out…they look perfect:

I’m not surprised as while I was making it, I was on the phone to BG asking her a million questions!

I got it unmolded and into my bespoke soap log cutter:

made by my bother-in-law Charlie to my exact specifications.  It's curing now:

and should be ready in 4 - 6 weeks.

After that it was back to the studio to start loading up my customer quilt (I only got the minke back loaded) and working on the spiral quilt:

I had lumped my Kindred Pinwheel on the other side of my tables, hoping to get it trimmed, when something happened. Now, if you try to cover either one of the kitties with something...they fight you off with every breath of their being....but put a folded something on the table and voila (I didn't get my camera out in time to show her going in):

I also did a bit of embroidery….for a cause.  I am so disheartened at the amount of hate being espoused by the current administration and their supporters…I find it so hard to believe that people I have known a long time seem to still be supporting the lies and hate that are on continual streaming from the White House, internet (and Fox News).  Some people don't do any research to find out whether what they are hearing is the truth....particularly a problem if they're getting their information from FOX (remember, they have paid 787 million dollars in fines for lying on the air).

I headed to the internet to look for something, downloaded the file and stitched it out:

I’m planning to wear this every day, at least during the month of June…and I’ll see about beyond.  I am hoping it will be a subtle reminder that building a country on hate will never make it strong, and that leadership built on that is not the kind of America we deserve.  I believe that people should have the right to love whomever they love and be whoever they are….without fear of reprisal.  We’ll see what kind of push-back (if any) I receive.

Michael was up at o’dark hundred Wednesday morning (6/4) to take my car to the dealer’s for a recall fix of the passenger side airbag.  They gave him a loaner….a 2024 SUBARU Outback and he said would take a LOT of getting used to!

I SKYPE’d with Janice in the morning and went to an ice cream social in the afternoon!  Our pod had a get-to-know-your-neighbors-better ice cream social:

and it was lots of fun and very yummy (with lots of toppings):

We sat and talked with our neighbors, played a game, had raffle prizes and in general had a very pleasant afternoon.

We came home in time to shower and change to be picked up by Ed & Carol to head out to Waxhaw for dinner.  We always have a wonderful time with them and our meals were excellent as well...Michael had eggplant parmesan:

and I had one of the specials, which was lobster & shrimp in a garlic cream sauce:

And 10 years ago.....

*** It's 6 months since I joined the gym and no progress. I'm going there in person tomorrow to find out what's really going on. ***

*** It's gardening season again....I planted myself on the couch 6 weeks ago and I've grown considerably. ***

I learned how to make soap in CT.  A woman taught a class about 21 years ago....I don't remember anything about her or where she was (sorry) but maybe you could google and try to find her?

I absolutely HATE to longarm on minke!  And, normally I trim my customer quilts for no charge, but I refuse to trim minke....I don't need to the fluzz everywhere including up my nose :~).

Soap?! I can’t believe you make soap. Truly a lost art.
