Sugared Pecans

********************************

Michael left for golf around 9 AM on Monday morning (12/6) while I got my blog out and started to make my sugared pecans:

Of course I had my usual group of companions close by:

The hands on time for these pecans is not bad, but they have to bake for an hour (with some stirring), so elapsed time is a lot. I did 4 runs of pecans, and got them all bagged up:

I don’t really like the clean-up from these:

because it takes a lot of hot water and scrubbing to get rid of that extra baked on sugar…but eventually it was done.

Michael came home (with an excellent 83) over 2 hours after I shut off the oven, and he could smell gas as soon as he opened the door. (BG – he had his own Aunt Violet moment). Michael always calls when he is on his way home from the golf course. Well, I didn’t answer my cell hpone because it was upstairs and I was down…and I didn’t answer the land line because I was indisposed….so he comes home and opens the door….neither the cats nor the dog greeted him as they normally do, and I hadn’t answered the phone…and he got slapped in the face by the gas smell and he thought maybe we were all dead!!! Luckily, that wasn’t the case, but we opened up the whole house…up and down to try to air it out. We have had the oven fixed and had it fixed and had it fixed, and have had the gas company come more than once and look at me like I am crazy when I tell them I smell gas…that’s it! Time for a new stove…. Unfortunately, that brings my candy making to a screeching halt….as the last 2 things I need to do…cracker toffee and caramal corn, both require the oven :~(.

I had a headache (probably from the gas) and didn’t really feel like doing anything for the rest of the afternoon. We got a pizza from HT, and just snuggled the rest of the night away.

BG has taken a job of embroidering for a local company. This design has 61 THOUSAND stitches and takes at least 2 hours to stitch out:

And, she's started a new commissioned quilt...I LOVE it...colors AND pattern:

*** I always knew I'd get old....how fast it happened was a bit of a surprise though. ***
