The head of FEMA’s Urban Search and Rescue branch resigned on Monday. Ken Pagurek’s departure comes less than three weeks after a delayed FEMA response to catastrophic flooding in central Texas that was caused by bureaucratic hurdles. Pagurek told colleagues that he was frustrated by the Trump administration’s efforts to dismantle FEMA, but the delay in approval for his team to swiftly respond to the flooding was the tipping point that led to his decision. Pagurek, who spent more than a decade with FEMA’s Urban Search and Rescue branch, including about a year as its chief, joins dozens of other high-ranking officials to leave the agency since Trump took office.

My honey spent Tuesday morning (7/15) at the tire store buying 4 new tires :~(. I am so lucky at how much he takes care of me.....and my CAR!!!
But, on the home front, it was a momentous day for me…..friend Susie makes the best toffee in the world….and has graciously shared it many, many times over the years. She has given me the recipe numerous times…and even had me over to her house to watch her make it….but I have remained too afraid to try it. Well…today was the day!

She came to my house and watched me make a batch:

I was so nervous this morning it wasn’t even funny!!! But, she was right…it turned out to be easy peasy…and I can’t wait to eat it!
After that I had PT at NOON with some not-so-great news…..the therapist explained that by this point I should be showing at least some improvement and the fact that I am still in a great deal of pain leads her to counsel me to consider the surgery option. I spent the afternoon just rocking in my chair downstairs thinking about it…and when Michael and I got together, we started the process of cancelling our planned trip to Paris :~(. I don’t want to see Europe from a wheelchair, not to mention that Michael would be exhausted trying to push me all around…..thus the cancellation. I guess I’ll have to talk to the surgeon again to see where we go from here.
I had made up a cold pasta salad with lots of veggies the other day, and that’s what we are continuing to eat for dinners.
Michael left for the new SUPERMAN movie very early, and Iris came over and we continued to work on her tulip/butterfly quilt:

We laid out all of the butterflies...and made a bunch of changes to where we wanted the colors....and I made her a list of the changes to do when she got home.

I was up at 6 AM on Wednesday (7/16) to make a breakfast sandwich for my honey before heading back to bed! He left super early for the RED/WHITE/BLUE tournament, and forgot to take his pills, so at 9 AM I ran those over to one of the golf holes, before coming home to video chat with Janice.
After chatting I picked up Pat and we headed to Matthews to pick up Jan and go for peach milkshakes (and lunch!) We went back to Jan’s and talked and talked and talked! Pat also used some of Jan’s totally gorgeous fabric to make her a purse/bag:

and I think she was thrilled with it. We finally said good-bye and were home by 3 PM.
I talked with my honey for a bit, he was not happy with where they ended up in the tournament (last in their flight) but happy to have had a good time golfing with Doug (Paula’s hubby).
I got my second customer quilt off of the frame and trimmed, with a sleepy, cute furball for company:

before a dinner of pasta salad and cribbage and TV watching in the evening.

My honey packed up the car for me and I headed off to quilting on Thursday (7/18). Diane brought one of her neighbors who is thinking of joining and she seems like she will be a great addition to the group. I was thrilled to finally finish the top I have been working on for months….everyone thought it was so beautiful due to Jan’s gorgeous tulip fabric and a batik from Corinne:

And we had lovely show & tell:

I was pretty tired when I got home and vegged and talked with my honey for a bit before getting the backing loaded up for my 3rd customer quilt. We spent another evening watching several episodes of DEPT Q on NETFLIX…..we can’t wait to see how this one ends!

I got the top loaded for the 3rd quilt Friday morning (7/18) before I left for my massage…heaven as always!
When I got home, I got everything set up and stared the stitch out. Again, it was very time consuming, but it is one of my absolutely favorite designs:

I was stitching away in the afternoon when the dog started to go crazy because someone was at the front door. It was Anna, the wonderful baker and chef who did all of the food for my birthday party last year (Surprise 70th Birthday Party):

Once again she thanked me over and over for hiring her and told me that I had no idea of how the ripples of my kindness spread….and she brought me a FABULOUS cake for my birthday:

What a wonderful and kind and thoughtful young woman!!!!
And 10 years ago....
*** Everyday around MID-NIGHT I am shocked to find out it is only 6 PM! ***
*** No matter what's going on in your life, there's some form of potato that can make it better. ***
***I caught my hubby eating the last of the ice cream last night! First of all, we're supposed to be dieting together. Second, I was gonna eat that! ***
I love Iris’s butterfly quilt, Pat’s bag, and the appliqué training quilts. So sad you have to cancel Paris
That cake looks SO good!!!!
The butterflies look stupendous!
And the cartoon quits are a riot!
Anna is so thoughtful!
Happy Birthday
