Tutorial for Robin's squash, crumb quilt laid out, tart shells made

CNN read hundreds of pages of recent federal court rulings involving President Donald Trump’s administration. The language judges used to describe the conduct of the administration and its lawyers is extraordinary.

Some of the words they used: “retaliatory,” “misleading,” “unconstitutional,” “squalid” and “irrational.” Read more.

I spent Friday (6/26) and Saturday (6/27) the same way…labeling, loading up and quilting my purple pinwheel quilt:

-and sewing on a second quilt with green instead of the purple:

By dinnertime on Saturday, the purple quilt was all quilted:

and I had all of the blocks done for the green one:

Michael and I did spend a bit of time in the kitchen Saturday morning, putting together dough for the tart shells we will bake in a couple of days:

-my honey, a master with a pastry blender!

He left after that for a car show at movie friend Larry's place:

We had a fabulous dinner that night.  Robin (a Thursday quilter) is always very generous with her garden produce, and she has been bringing in yellow & green squash and cucumbers….I LOVE her squash, and I thought I’d do a tutorial for you…this is what we make for dinner whenever she shares her produce:

-saute a large onion in olive oil

-add in portobello mushrooms and a bit more oil if needed

-once the mushrooms are browned, add in the diced squash

-in the meantime, Michael was cooking 8 ounces of pasta in the microwave, and we added that in

-and we serve it with a healthy portion of feta

I spent all day Sunday (6/28) working on my second pinwheel quilt:

and by the time I headed upstairs around 8 PM (Michael was watching the Traveler’s Tournament in Hartford), the top was all done:

I really pushed myself yesterday (Sunday), so I spent all of Monday morning (6/29) reading my library book!

But in the early afternoon, I finally headed downstairs to embroider the label on the green quilt:

and get it loaded up on my frame:

and start quilting.  Michael came down later in the afternoon to layout my crumb blocks:

and to watch THE SHEEP MOVIE together (it's on PRIME video and it was EXCELLENT!!!).

I needed 7 more crumb blocks and found 3 that just needed the middle seam sewn together, but now must make 4 more to get a quilt the right size (luckily I have many, many more crumb blocks made).  I originally bought 3 BOLTS of this purple fabric I am using with it (that's 45 yards of fabric), but now have less than 2 yards, so I figured I had better figure out what I need for the blocks and get it finished before I totally run out.

If you want to know what a crumb block is, check these out:

-this 3-1/2 inch unfinished block has 8 different fabrics in that small square

-this one only has 7

-sometimes it is easier to see from the wrong side....

You just take leftover scraps of fabric, any old size, and sew them together. Eventually it is big enough to slap a 3-1/2 inch ruler on it and cut it out! I know...crazy right? Especially when you consider that I am the Queen of ''bigger is better'' when it comes to pieces in a quilt block!

Michael and I were in the kitchen again Tuesday morning (6/30) to bake our pie dough into tart shells:

and of course, I made my mom’s cinnamon pinwheels out of the leftover pie dough:

These tart shells will go into the freezer until Friday when they will be filled.

Michael left after that for a haircut and stops at ALDI and Harris Teeter, while I hit the studio and finished the quilting on the green pinwheel quilt:

Then I got the 4 remaining crumb blocks done that were needed to finish the quilt top:

before getting the green pinwheel quilt all cleaned up and ready for binding.

I got the binding made before dinner.  Michael left for the movies around 6:30 PM and I knit the night away while he was gone.

Iris and Mario had a chance to watch some FIFA action when Mexico (Iris's team) played Ecuador (Mario's team)....Mexico won!!!!! But they didn't get to bed until 2 AM!!!!!

Love your green pinwheel quilt! What are you putting in your tart shells? It is only 100 degrees here! It is a little cooler than is was earlier in the day, 102!
