Wearing a deep blue “American Flag” suit and his right hand raised high, he swore that his testimony would be “the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you, God.” With his own legal team directly behind him, former Special Counsel Jack Smith sat down, turned his microphone on, and began his long-awaited testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee with a stunning opening statement. In it were words that have never been, and never should be, said about a president of the United States of America, but that are now being said about Donald J. Trump: “Our investigation developed proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump engaged in serious crimes against our nation.”

PSA #2 - I use instant yeast in my baking and I find myself with a surfeit of it....so much so that I don't think it will retain its effectiveness until I get to the end of it. So....if you use any instant yeast in your baking....and you live near me....PLEASE contact me and let me give you some of my yeast!!!! I would hate to see it go to waste. And by the way....I always keep my yeast in the freezer, and I use it directly from the freezer...helps to make it retain its effectiveness longer. If you don't know how to check instant yeast to see if it is still viable...let me know!

I was awake at 6 AM on Friday (9/25)…and couldn’t decide whether to get up or not….I rolled over and said if I didn’t fall back asleep in half an hour, I would get up…..and I got up! I was glad as I felt like I had a lot to get done. I now have 2 customer quilts (I picked up one at quilting) and knew I was getting another Friday afternoon. So, I really need to suck it up and get mine finished…thread breakage or not. So, I kicked off my quilting, and just swore as my thread broke 10 times across the first row. :~(. Each time I pulled out yards and yards of thread….and changed my needle twice….and changed my thread…..to no avail.
I did intake on another quilt in the afternoon, then headed to the library to get something notarized…which Michael then kindly drove to the main branch of the post office to make sure it went out as soon as possible.
I was shocked at how much of my thyme had gone brown while we were away, so I got the remaining green part harvested for the year. To keep thyme all you need to do is cut the ‘’branches’’, wash and dry it, and stuff it into a zip lock freezer bag and throw it in the freezer. When you need to use it, you just need to thump the bag on your counter a couple of times, then unzip the top and pour out what you want….the leaves will have fallen all off of the branches!
So, now I’ve processed my basil into pesto, and my thyme, I just have to make sage butter with my sage and I will be all set for the winter!

I think all of the going and going caught up with me, and I spent the entire morning on Saturday (9/26) sitting in the living room, sipping tea and reading a book. Have you read THEO OF GOLDEN yet? If not, you simply must…..I have yet to meet anyone who hasn’t really enjoyed it….and I decided to read it for the second time…so that was what was on tap this morning :~). In the meantime, my honey was being totally industrious….finishing unpacking, putting away laundry, emptying the dishwasher and taking Freya for a walk!
Just before 1 PM, we headed over to Maury & Marcia's house for his QoV ceremony.....there were lots of people there that we knew and it was lovely to see him receive a quilt and to hear about his journey:
I felt like I got very little done yesterday with the thread breakage problems….so I totally ignored my longarm for the rest afternoon. I got 20 more blocks cut for my Thursday project (after discovering when I was sewing on Thursday that I was 20 blocks short!!!), and started to cut HST’s for a new quilt project. I bought 10 black/white fat quarters at a recent sale, and following BG’s advice, am using a lime green for the background….it should be interesting.
I thawed out some sausage soup from the freezer and made popovers for dinner and we watched more of the original DOC MARTIN episodes.

We had a leisurely and relaxing Sunday morning (9/27), although I did manage to get bread baked as we were out.....and we distributed 2 half loaves to neighbors and friends:
before picking up Ed & Carol and heading into Charlotte for COME FROM AWAY at Theatre Charlotte:
It was a fascinating true story play, based on the events in the Newfoundland town of Gander during the week following the September 11 attacks, when 38 planes, carrying approximately 7,000 passengers (about the population of Gander itself!), were ordered to land unexpectedly at Gander International Airport. The characters in the musical are based on actual Gander residents and the stranded travelers they housed and fed. It was a musical 2 hour tour de force with wonderful stories, and a follow-up 10 years after it happened. I think we all enjoyed it very much.
Ed had asked us about JUNIPER GRILL on the way to the play, so we asked them if they wanted to have dinner there on the way home. Three of us had the shrimp and crab seafood enchiladas, and Carol had vegetarian ones and everyone loved their meals. We were home around 7 PM and I knit away the rest of the evening.
And 10 years ago....
