Michael headed out to the DMV in Rock Hill on Tuesday morning (11/30)…his license expires in February and he went for a renewal. I spent a lot of time reading over my embroidery instruction book, before finally settling in to sewing together the remaining 4 patches:
and then (by the end of the day) getting the entire quilt sewn together:
Anybody out there have some FOUST dark brown? I think that’s what I want for the backing and binding.
As you know, we are getting our floor changed in the basement sometime early next year, and I believe 3 of the guys on the crew are veterans….so I would like to have 3 quilts ready to go by the time that happens. I went to my orphan blocks and found several. I think this happened once before when I tried to use these blocks…the first 4 look great:
but when I put the other 5 up: oh boy….WAY TOO MUCH going on.
Would you guys please weigh in? Do you like the 9 blocks together…or should I put in sashing…and if sashing….what color? By the time I was finished it was 7 PM and I was starving…
Michael and I were splitting a Chicken Cesar Salad for dinner….and I decided I could perk it up with some:
Yes, popovers…that of course I forgot to take a picture of until we had eaten some of them :~).
I spent part of the rest of the evening, ripping stitching out of my black/white backing for the “X” quilt.

Well, since you asked (and you are going to get lots of opinions 🤪).
I dont care for the center block in the right hand row - if You have more fabric I would make up 1 more block like the 3 RWB blocks. I would sash the quilt in red between the blocks and do a cornerstone at each intersection in blue. Binding in blue would make a nice frame and balance the visual weight of red, and also carry the blue from your cornerstones.
The block that I am suggesting you remove now can become the center block in another quilt and you can build a new quilt around that center.
Whatever you decide will be perfect and…
can you make up another of the three stars. Then you would have two quilts. Sashing would be good. Do you have some patriotic fabric you could cut for the extra squares?
I really liked the look of all 9 together, how about red or blue sashing, I thought white would be to much with the white Background blocks but you never know. How about black sashing?
