And….we’re back! We had a fabulous time visiting Candyce & Ralph:
in Naples, Florida. Michael kept me supplied with ‘’fun facts’’ all the way down in the car (luckily his are SO MUCH BETTER than Sheldon’s!).
The first leg of our trip down was to Gainsville Florida (a beautiful rest stop along the way!):
The trip was uneventful, except for one thing....after being in the car for 8-1/2 hours, and wanting nothing more than to sit down to a nice, relaxing dinner....our hotel had almost NO FOOD! The only food they ever have is mac 'n' cheese and wings....and they forgot to thaw out any mac 'n' cheese! That wouldn't have been so bad...but after hearing that Gainsville was a college town...I figured we could walk to any number of places...but our hotel was in the middle of nowhere. We could have done ''ubereats'' or ''doordash'....but actually that held no appeal. Michael ate the second half of my lunch sandwich...and I had a drink...and we called it good. On the plus side, the hotel was spotless and the mattress and pillows for our bed were heaven! We got up on Tuesday, each had a breakfast sandwich and were with Candyce and Ralph by early afternoon. Of course they showed us around their beautiful condo (I cannot believe I didn't take any pictures...it is stunning!!), and the view from their lanai is phenomenal (luckily Michael took a few pictures of that). We saw 2 otters playing in the water that first afternoon:
The guys got to golf, the ladies got in some shopping and lots and lots of talking. We got to play RUMMYCUBE and SCRABBLE and shouted out answers to JEOPARDY in the evenings! Our meals were yummy when we were there....ALDO's was incredible (thank you Gale & Phil for introducing C & R to it!), and we were sorry to leave Thursday morning after breakfast.
Michael wanted to surprise me, so when we drove to Savannah we stayed at the Bohemian....a gorgeous hotel in the historic district. They greeted us with champagne:
And this was the view from our balcomy:
-yes, we went over that bridge as we left Savannah...and it was quite an experience! (Cathy L...I don't think you would have liked it a bit!)
We first went to the Chart House 17 years ago, when we had been visiting a Del Webb in Hilton Head with an idea to buy. That was where we went for dinner Thursday night:
-this was how my spinach salad was presented:
-and I had shrimp beignets as well
-Michael had prime rib
-with a side of coconut shrimp
We checked out the WWII memorial on Friday morning as we left:
It was certainly sobering, especially given what is currently happening with Russia and Ukraine....are we looking at the beginning of WWIII?
Our trip home Friday was again uneventful...except for a tremendous lightning and thunderstorm that made it very hard to see the road. Luckily it didn't last very long...and also it very effectively cleaned off our car!
Our trip was wonderful, but as always, it was nice to get home and bond with our furry children during a quiet evening.
*** I don't usually brag about going to expensive places....but I just left the gas station! ***
