BG finishes squares, baklava cookies, SHQ Show & Tell

We definitely had a slower start on Tuesday (4/23); we weren’t at our machines until just before 10 AM….we’re in the ‘’slog’’ phase now….just making and cutting strata to make the squares and triangles we need for the rest of the quilt….but there are still donuts being consumed…and lots of talking going on :~) and XENA’s rails are getting way less full:

My honey made me breakfast around 10:30 AM and it was terrific (once again….those are pear wedges, not potatoes….and they tasted AWESOME!)

We sewed all day, stopped for a dinner of hot dogs and mac ‘n’ cheese, then Michael left for the movies and BG and I made a quick grocery store run before just relaxing when we got home. BG made friends with Lucy:

We did slightly better on Wednesday (4/24) hitting our machines before 9 AM. ALL of BG’s strata are done (yay!!!), so she spent the morning ironing the strata and then cutting them into blocks. I still have to sew 2 sets of mine….so that’s what I worked on.

I had a quick visit from one of my knitting students and I got her back on the right path….and also paused to run a few things up to Michael at the golf course, who is helping out with the 2 day MEMBER/MEMBER tournament.

We sewed all day and by dinnertime, all 20 of BG’s strata were totally done and she had cut them into squares. She opted to NOT cut them on the diagonal until she got home, as that bias edge would have a tendency to stretch. For the first time EVER, she didn’t bring enough projects to work on! To be fair, both of us thought this project would be much more complicated than it was…it really did seem to go quickly once we had all of our strata cut. I still have several more to do:

We headed back to SWEET DOUGH (the donut shop) on Thursday morning (4/25) as BG wanted to pick up some samples for her honey Steven.

Once we were back home, I put together Baklava cookies for the MEMBER/MEMBER dinner on Friday night (more about that in a later blog):

and then we headed off to quilting. I think everyone who already knew BG was very pleased to see her again….and she had many built in new friends from people seeing her on the blog! There was great show & tell:

-we unexpectedly had 3 string pieced quilts in a row!

but finally it was time to head home and load the car :~(.

But first, BG showed me how to use the new binding tool she bought me…I think I already LOVE it…and then we headed to the KOA in Fort Mill to meet up with Steven:

and say good bye:

I am not too sad as I will see her again in September at the Fiber Floozies retreat….I know the time will fly by.

I’ll be honest, when I came home from dropping BG off…I just SAT!!!! No reading no watching TV no playing games on the computer….just sitting…she WORE ME OUT! I do not know how she does it….she has a full-time 40 hour work week at Travelers, runs a thriving soap business, takes care of her mom Bertha (who is having some memory issues) and has now taken on the care of Steven’s sister-in-law, a recent widow who is also dealing with memory issues….and she’s still cranking out quilts to give away to all and sundry…..AMAZING!!!

And some gratuitous puppy pics...she was such a good girl one morning while BG and I were sitting at the kitchen table....she got right into her bed and stayed there:

*** And for my fellow Notting Hill fans: I’m just a girl….standing in front of the fridge….hoping dinner will make itself’’.
