Cake!, Ralph & Candyce, Carol & Ed

Michael headed out to Golf Galaxy on Friday morning (5/27), while I got busy and got 2 chocolate layers baked:

I set out the frosting ingredients to come to room temperature and headed to my studio.

First I had to get my blog out…then I spent a tension filled 45 minutes booking flights for Michael in June….he is going to visit AJ and the kids. It seems like everything is falling in June…we have tickets to 3 plays, Michael is going on a golfing vacation for several days, I have a colonoscopy/endoscopy scheduled, I’m visiting Janice & Dennis for several days, and Michael will be going to Ithaca. I’m sure that month is going to fly by…even quicker than all the rest!

I spent a bit of time after that on the phone talking to a longarm design store. One of my customers wants a new design and I had to take different things into consideration that I have never had to before. Thank goodness the woman on the phone was willing to keep explaining until I finally understood the challenges of this particular design. I bookmarked the design as I am not getting the quilt until the end of July…and she could change her mind, so I will wait until I do intake on the quilt. Since the purchase will be immediately available for down loading, I don’t have to get it now.

I finally got back to the squiggle quilt and finished up my cutting and sewing of HST’s for a new color:

Then, since my table was cleared off, I trimmed my green chandelier:

Of course I couldn’t put in on the pile….you know why:

By then it was time to go upstairs and finish off the cake:

-I made a well on the bottom layer with the frosting

-then filled it with raspberry jam. I also had fresh raspberries I was going to add, but decided to put them on top of the cake (all of the baking shows say that's good as it ''telegraphs'' what's inisde the cake

-I added a layer of frosting on top of the jam and put the cake into the fridge to chill

-finally it was out and frosted and I got to do some decorations. This was supposed to be a practice cake for my birthday cake...and it worked out well

-my honey artfully arranged the raspberries

We left at 5:30 and headed to EMMET’s in Waxhaw, where we met up with Ralph:

& Candyce

and Carol

& Ed (being silly with our table fan).

We had a wonderful dinner, where I took NOT ONE picture :~(. Really disappointing as everything was beautifully presented.

Everyone came back to our place for cake:

We talked until almost 10 PM about religion, politics, abortion, the most recent shooting in Texas, gun laws, our backgrounds, our parents…and many more topics. It was really wonderful to have intelligent and thoughtful discussions on all of these topics. When everyone left, Michael and I read for about an hour before bed.
