Freezer clean out, Janice's quilt

Janice and I were in the living room talking Saturday morning (9/15) when Pat showed up for a bit of help on a new quilting pattern. We talked for quite awhile before Michael appeared and said ‘’ok…let’s go’’! I had mentioned defrosting the garage freezer on Saturday morning, and he was ready to go! Janice and Pat headed to the studio to work out whatever Pat needed for cutting on a new quilt, while Michael and I headed to the garage, having texted our neighbors to ask if we could borrow their dolly. Not only did they come down with their dolly and extra coolers, they both stayed to talk us through the defrost. Pete has figured out the slickest & quickest way you’ve ever seen to defrost the freezer…and I truly am still in shock at how well (and how incredibly fast) it worked! Previous to Pete, Michael and I unpacked everything and used a combination of boiling water and a hair dryer and laboriously got rid of the frost. Our freezer had literally 3 inches of frost/ice in some places, and Michael got rid of it in about 12 – 14 minutes!!! How??? Pete told us to wheel the freezer to the driveway, prop up the back of the freezer so that the water/ice would run out, and then start spraying it with the garden hose sprayer!

You can see all of the white pieces on the ground...that's ice!!! I only got there right at the end to take pics!! It was totally amazing how quickly all of the ice was gone!!!! Kay and Pete were both there helping us…and when I was unloading the food and complained how low to the ground the freezer was…Pete immediately went to his house, came back with a 2’’ by 4’’ and an electric saw….cut 4 boards….and when we were done, he and Michael propped the freezer back up on the boards! I swear it took longer to unload the food and chuck it into 2 coolers than it did to get rid of the frost. And there was a ton of it because several months ago, somehow the freezer door got left open for a period of time. Michael said the entire operation (taking out the food, spraying/washing away the ice, drying everything and putting the food back in and making a list of what was in there) took about 45 minutes…..UNBELIEVEABLE!!!!!!

Janice and I headed to the studio after that, where she proceeded to baste her quilt:

and I worked on getting the borders on my top:

Unfortunately, I knew I wasn't done with the teal-y batik, and put it in a ''safe place'' months ago. Needless to say....I can't find it anywhere, so this top will be set aside until I can find it and add the final outer border :~(.

We stopped for a quick lunch (Janice brought leftover chips and salsa, and I had jalapeno cheese and sour cream):

before she set up the program for her quilt and kicked it off:

By the time we stopped for dinner, she was about 3/4 of the way through.

Gratuitous puppy pics:
