I got a lot of piddly little house/chore things done Friday morning (2/16) before heading to the studio to baste Darlene’s second quilt:
I got that done, wound bobbins and kicked off the quilting:
So, I had several non-quilters ask me why I couldn’t just make 10 more blocks to make my ‘’too skinny’’ cat quilt wider. I could have done that BEFORE I sewed everything together…and interspersed those 10 blocks, made out of different but similar fabrics throughout the quilt. But I have it all sewn together, and 2 additional rows out of new fabric would really stick out. But, sometimes insomnia is a good thing….I was thinking about the quilt Wednesday night when I couldn’t fall asleep…and was figuring out in my mind how many jelly roll strips I must have used…and realized that I had only used 28 strips out of a 40 jelly roll pack…that meant that I had more of those exact same fabrics!!! So, I hopped up Thursday morning, went to my stash of jelly rolls…and there it was…a half empty pack!!!! So, I took it to quilting….choose 4 strips of fabric and made 10 blocks:
I didn’t sew the cat fabric to them at quilting, in case I needed to flip them to make it look better (you know….make it a tiny bit less obvious that 2 rows only have 2 different blocks in them)…..but I think it looks ok…don’t you? Now I’ll sew on the cat toppers and sew those 2 rows to the quilt and I’ll be back to a dialysis sized quilt :~). In the meantime, I finished up quilting on Darlene’s 2nd quilt:
before we headed over to Gale & Phil’s. I was looking for some bolts…and of course Phil had them and after he got them out, we sat around and talked for quite awhile and it was just lovely. When we got home, I put his bolts to good use to anchor my basket (courtesy of June at Christmastime) to XENA’s frame to house the tools I always use…it’s wonderful to have them right at hand:
We had ARBY’s fish sandwiches for dinner….and watched the final 2 episodes of LA BREA in the evening.

My honey made me a fabulous breakfast Saturday morning (2/17):
after which I got the 2 extra rows sewn on the cat quilt:
and also made binding:
Is the quilt perfect? NO….will it be a nice dialysis quilt….YES….so I’m happy. I got my next customer quilt loaded up and set up the pattern. Michael had an evening murder mystery that was about 1-1/2 hours away….he was supposed to be a mime:
He was gone from around 5 PM until 11:30 PM!!!!

Sunday (2/18) was all about the newest customer quilt:
Michael had a matinee murder mystery performance, so I worked on it all day…and got it about 60% done:
He was REALLY beat when he got home, after 2 days of performances and a really long drive on Saturday, so we just watched a couple of sitcoms in the evening and relaxed..
And I haven't posted gratuitous puppy pics in FOR-EV-ER......so here you go:
-her newest favorite spot
-her old wicker bed before she chewed it to bits!!!
-her new luxurious bed
-basking in the sun
*** So now cocaine is legal in Oregon, but straws aren't. That must be frustrating. ***
And some more 10 years ago...as my tumbling blocks start coming to life!
I'm glad you could make use of that basket. Freya is smart. She knew if she chewed up her bed she would get a new roomier bed.
When you said “bolts” I was thinking bolts of fabric not metal bolt. Great idea. Also cat quilt is wonderful
Love the basket attached to your frame - brilliant idea!!!
So glad you figured out your cat quilt…I just knew you would.
Bet Michael made a great mime.
