Thursday (8/31) was all about quilting!!! I was up early and made a Spanish Coffee Cake:
to take in to share, then my honey packed the car and off I went. But a tiny bit of a funny story first. Anyone who has made a confectioner's sugar glaze knows that you can use about a teaspoon of liquid to a cup of sugar and get the right pouring consistency. Well, I put a cup of sugar in my measuring cup, and poured in some vanilla extract...and stirred and stirred and stirred....no dice. So I added some half & half ...and stirred and stirred and stirred....no dice. I added a good bit more vanilla and stirred and stirred and I still had a half dry blobby mess!!! I finally pulled out my canisters and looked at what was written on them. I thought my 10X sugar was on the left...turns out it was my self-rising flour!!!! No wonder it wasn't working. So, that big blob went in the trash, and I started all over again....this time with the correct powdered substence, and with a little bit of vanilla added, all was well :~).
We had a good group today…and some special show & tell:
Jerri taught a class a long time ago on making a quilt with striped fabric....and everyone who still had their quilts brought them in:
-I was really bummed I didn't still have mine made out of this orange fabric, as I put sashing in mine and I think it would have been neat to see them side by side
And Laura L taught a mystery quilt this year...and everyone brought theirs in:
And we had a bullseye class awhile ago, and everyone brought theirs in:
We certainly have a lot of fun at quilting...especially with our classes.
I was home after 2 PM and talked with my honey for a bit before Susan swung by for a visit. She has been in Denmark for 2 weeks, and we have a lot to catch up on….she could only stay for a bit (because you know…being gone you have a lot to catch up on when you come home!) so we’re going to try to schedule another session together next week.
My honey picked up WENDY’s for dinner (since I’m not cooking on Thursdays anymore…yay!) We didn’t play any games this week as Michael had a ‘’call back’’ Thursday night for the upcoming play at Fort Mill. He was home by 9 PM and we just watched a bit of TV and then read before bed.
*** When people say they slept like a baby…does that mean they woke up 3 times that night and pooped in their pants? ***
Absolutely love seeing all of the Show and Tell quilts! The one with the bunnies and puppies in the snow is so cute! I loved all of the mystery quilts, especially the Christmas one and the patriotic one. Everyone is so very talented. Cannot wait to see more. Would you share the Mexican Coffee cake recipe? It looks delicious!
Such gorgeous, happy quilts on Thursday!
(boy, am I glad you realized it was flour & not sugar…that’s one of my favorite things you make😂!)
i only got up once!
