SHQ Show & Tell, Michael's ankle

I spent Wednesday (1/3) trying to quilt, and being extremely frustrated!!! I got

2-1/2 rows done….with a total of 7 thread breaks. I finally shut down my machine and concentrated on piecing…working on blocks I started at the Fiber Floozie retreat:

Michael picked up a pizza at Harris Teeter for dinner and I knit the night away after that.

Thursday morning (1/4) I packed up my 5 finished quilts for show and tell….cinnamon rolls (to bake at the church) for breakfast (everybody loved those!), regular dinner rolls as my contribution for lunch (of course, I forgot the stick of butter and my sweet honey brought one down before lunch) and a sewing machine and my projects. Michael got it all out into the car and I took off for quilting. What a terrific meeting! I think we were all so happy to get back after 3 – 4 weeks off that we had a terrific time. There was lots of talking and laughing and great show and tell:

and the food (soup/salad/sandwiches/desserts) was, as always, so very yummy.

I had several errands to run on the way home….so got home just in time to pick up Michael and Freya and take off to the vet. She’s been having bad diarrhea for 1-1/2 days….so we needed to see what the problem was. $500 later and we still don’t know…but she is on anti-biotics and pro-biotics and a diet of chicken & rice for the next several days. I was totally beat when we got home, and fell asleep on the fainting couch for an hour. Then disaster struck….I got up and was talking to Michael about when he wanted dinner…he had been sitting and reading for an hour while I was napping….he got up to come out to the kitchen…and I heard a huge thud! I ran into the living room and he was on the floor. Apparently, while he had been reading, his left foot fell asleep and when he got up and put weight on it…it wouldn’t support him and down he went. Needless to say, we spent the rest of the evening, elevating and icing his foot/ankle.

Friday morning (1/5) we had our home health check-up. When you have United Health Care as your supplemental insurance, they send out someone to do routine tests on you once a year…and Friday morning was our day. When she saw Michael’s foot/ankle, she said we needed to go and get it checked to make sure nothing was broken. I was lucky (unfortunately my friend wasn’t) that friend Linda had taken a recent fall and reminded me that Ortho Carolina has a walk in clinic in Ballentyne that starts at 5:30 PM. She had to go Wednesday night….and we were there Friday night. We got there a few minutes before 5 (because you know me….who knows how long it will take to get to Ballentyne and I am early everywhere!!!) and Michael was the 3rd person to sign in! By 5:20 PM, there were 13 people signed up. As the health care worker suspected….Michael broke a small bone in his ankle and will be in a boot for the next 4 weeks……so no golfing…..no dog walking…..no lots of other things :~(. We were home by 7:30 and alternately iced and rested his leg while watching TV.

I am so sorry to hear about Michael's fall. I hope he heals quickly and can get back in his new car. I hope Freya is on the mend too! I'm with Michael, I love the 3D effect on the Christmas tree quilt. Let's hope your 2024 gets back on the right track.

Oh no! I’m so sorry to hear about Michael’s accident. Let me know if I can help you in anyway. I was in a boot for 3 months too. Ugh.

This start to the new year sounds slow.. hope Michael is a person who heals quickly. While he is unable to do dog walking I hope Freya has no more stomach problems. It is one thing to have two people who can alternate care but when it is down to one the fun ends. I am so sorry I missed the meeting but no one needed me there like this. I hope I am better by next week.
