After breakfast on Sunday (1/7), I headed to the Lake House to celebrate and demonstrate on St Distaff Day with Pam & Rosalie:
The distaff, or roc, used in spinning was the medieval symbol of women's work. In many European cultural traditions, women resumed their household work after the twelve days of Christmas. Women of all classes would spend their evenings spinning on the wheel. During the day, they would carry a drop spindle with them. Spinning was the only means of turning raw wool, cotton or flax into thread, which could then be woven into cloth, so that everybody didn't walk around NAKED!!!
We were there until 2 PM, then I had a massage, then shopping at ALDI’s (BIG MISTAKE…half of the entire world shops at ALDI’s on Sunday afternoons :~), then tried to pick up prescriptions at the CVS drive-thru (no go…the other half of the entire world was waiting in line for prescriptions :~). I gave up and was home around 4:30.
I set my honey up with some ice and headed downstairs to get a blog out and get caught up on emails. After that it was back to trimming my pinwheel blocks….I hate trimming….but I’m sure I’ll be glad when I try to sew this together :~).
Michael and I had KFC pot pies for dinner, then settled in to watch a myriad of TV shows before bed.
More year end stuff:
When I first got a longarm machine (remember Miss Scarlett…and all of the swearing I did with her?), my goal was to longarm 1 quilt per week. I still wanted to complete piecing and I thought 1 quilt a week was reasonable. I’ve stayed right around that number every year….until this last year!!! My customers definitely kept me hopping, and I longarm-ed EIGHTY quilts in 2023!!! Here’s the breakdown:
62 customer quilts
13 dialysis quilts
-yes, I did 2 of these.....
1 gifted quilt
1 quilt we kept
3 QoV quilts (I am irritated that I have NO picture of Carolina's QoV quilt....I don't know why I didn't keep one :~(
I also donated 4 quilt tops (and matching binding) to the QoV group in Waxhaw.
OK…how many of you out there added those up to make sure I was right?!?
*** You never know what I have up my sleeve…..today, for example, it was a dryer sheet. ***
Gorgeous quilts. So much inspiration.
what is the name of the pattern for the green flowers with black and white accents.
What beauties! You’ve worked hard this year!
All of the quilts are so beautiful, regardless of the number! You know, I also do the dryer sheet trick, but sometimes I find them in my pants legs.
my new goal is to keep track of what I make in 2024
