As extreme weather events become increasingly damaging and costly, the Trump administration wants to shift the burden of disaster response from the federal government to the states. Six months after Hurricane Helene, North Carolina is still trying to recover. Four days into his second term, Trump visited the region and promised to help with rebuilding. But on April 1, the CDC team that was planning to travel to the area to survey residents about their recovery needs was fired. The administration also denied Arkansas’ request for federal aid in response to a recent outbreak of severe storms and tornadoes that left more than 40 people dead. Both Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem have made it clear they want to eliminate FEMA, which helps people find temporary housing and provides public assistance after natural disasters. In the coming weeks, FEMA is expected to lose about 20% of its full-time staff due to DOGE's staff reduction efforts.

I was quilting before 9 AM on Monday (4/28) hoping to get this Beds=Dreams quilt done before I do intake on another customer quilt sometime today. My honey had a relaxing morning, and left for 9 holes of golf after NOON. Pam stopped by in the afternoon…and we planned another baking day for next week….we are both going to make our dough at home (2 different kinds) and then hopefully do 2 different things with it (one savory and one sweet) when we are together.
Michael was home at 5 PM with a 42….so he was happy as he and Freya left for the dog park. I got my quilting done and off of the frame by dinnertime:

and got half of my fabric cut (and a bit of sewing done!) for new QoV:

My honey and I took freezing cold showers in the evening (yep – our water heater finally died….18-1/2 years after it was put in!)

I was out the door early on Tuesday (4/29) for a doctor’s appointment. I haven’t seen a doctor for my sleep apnea in 2 years…my old one (who I really liked as he was the one who found that tumor/lump in the front of my brain…I know, I know…that explains a lot….right?) quit doing it. At least I found out why…he’s a surgeon and really wanted to spend more time on surgery. Anyway, I finally got a referral and the new doctor seems excellent. The only downside is he is so far away. Anyway, I am desperate for new supplies, so I saw him and he called in a prescription. He said I have an excellent record on my CPAP machine (he meant in using it every day….no kidding as otherwise I’m a zombie!) and (based on that) I only have to see him once a year.
I was home by NOON and by then my honey was gone, with another appointment with the neuropathy doc for his feet. He goes twice a week…on Tuesdays and Thursdays….so I feel guilty complaining about all of the appointments I have this week….but I’m gonna complain anyway :~). I got started loading my customer quilt:

before I left for the hair dressers. I had some great mail when I got home….I have a jelly roll that I have had trouble getting yardage to go with it. I read several quilting blogs, and friend Carole (From My Carolina Home – Quilting, cooking, reading books, gardening, crafting, sewing, photography and more) had a recent post and I noticed a bolt of fabric on her table. I wrote to ask about it…and she sold me a couple of yards. It arrived and I laid it out with my jelly roll:

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER…..I think it will look TERRIFIC!!! I can’t wait to finish a top…maybe I’ll throw it in my project box for a short retreat I will be going on in May.

Wednesday (4/30) was GO GO GO all day! An early morning appointment in Ballentyne, then SKYPE-ing with Janice, then a follow-up appointment with the spine doc about my spine shot…which had NO EFFECT and they are recommending surgery! Then a routine appointment with my primary care (and I think friend Pam was in the next room :~), and finally home around 4 PM.
I started quilting on my customer quilt:

I really pushed myself to keep working on this as I wanted to trim it at quilting on Thursday….by 8 PM I was done and packed up everything to take with me.

Thursday (5/1) was all about quilting. Michael packed 6 quilts into the back of the car (4 were Beds=Dreams quilts that friend Mary B. came to pick up and take to her church for distribution) and the other 2 were for me to trim. I got that done and worked the rest of the day on the baby quilt. We had a bit of lovely show and tell:
June with fidget quilts....

I got home around 3:30 and was absolutely pooped, so I took a short nap while Michael and Freya headed to the dog park.
And 10 years ago....no write-ups....we were on vacation in California.

*** WANTED - someone to brush their teeth with me because 9 out of 10 dentists say ''brushing alone won't help tooth decay''. No weirdos. ***
*** I urge you to take care of yourself and avoid accidents because spare parts for old models like us are no longer in stock. ***
I love the fabric you bought from Carole for your Tonga Treats - that is perfect! I “know” Carole too from her blog and have had the chance to meet her a couple of times at quilt shows! Her blog and hobbies are fun to read about (a lot like you 😁!).
That fabric is an absolute match with your Tonga Treats!
(Still can’t get over us being in the next room at the Drs’ office!)
