Friday, Saturday & Sunday

Even though I rode my bike Friday morning (8/25), I managed to make a pan of Oatmeal Jam bars (with homemade peach jam) for Michael to take to his LLB luncheon:

I didn’t get a lot done while he was gone…as I was playing and keeping an eagle eye on Freya (house breaking dontcha know!), but when he came home, I started up quilting again:

By 5:30 PM, the quilting was all done and I spent the next hour weaving in bobbin ends, ripping out basting, and trimming the quilt:

Michael headed out early for golf on Saturday (8/26) while Kay and I went to the Farmer’s Market in Waxhaw. It was my first time…and very easy to find….someone had mentioned that it was right across from the post office. There seemed to be a very good selection of items, and I came home with rye bread, sourdough bread, pierogi’s and peaches.

I had some breakfast (and the sourdough figured prominently) and headed to the studio. I received another customer quilt got it basted:

and got the program set up. But then I finally decided to tackle the pile on my sewing tables:

See the extra batting and backing beyond the quilt top:

Well, when I trim that off of a customer quilt, I get to give it back to my customer. But when I trim it off of my own quilts, I end up with a big and overwhelming pile of fabric that I try to reclaim (reclaim = ripping out the extra stitching holding the batting to the backing, and then ironing the backing and cutting it in usable pieces). This pile was particularly overwhelming because I had that minke type backing in it…and that frays and shreds something awful when you cut it. This pile has been overwhelming me for quite some time, and it has prevented me from doing other things because I KNOW that this is what I should be working on :~(. I talked it over with Janice on Wednesday, and we came up with a solution. I put all of the minke…fabric and backing…into the dog bed bag, and just got to work on the rest of it. At least I finally made a start! It is a boring and seemingly endless and thankless task.

We had a wonderful dinner on Saturday…finally celebrating the new addition to the household:

So you know what that means….champagne and puffy things (this time puffy things were steamed dumplings from Tien Tien, and some spring rolls from Harris Teeter.)

All the while watching Harrison Ford in TEMPLE OF DOOM.

We slept in Sunday morning (8/27)…Freya has been sleeping through the night for several nights now….from 10:30 PM tp 6:30 AM which is a real blessing. Michal and Freya took off for a walk, and I did just a short bike ride before we all settled in, reading the paper and napping :~). Eventually I made it to the studio to start quilting on Barb’s gorgeous Asian quilt!

Pam stopped by for a nice long visit:

and while she was there, my handsome honey got ready to leave:

I was pretty much a theatre widow on Sunday….Michael went off to perform in one of his murder mysteries:

and made a brief dinner stop at home before leaving to try out for the next play at Fort Mill in the evening.

I finished off Barb’s quilting:

and got it cleaned up and off of the frame…and FINALLY (after 3 afternoons and evenings of working on it) finished reclaiming the last of the backing fabric from my pile…HOORAY!!! Now to get it ironed and cut!!!

More gratuitous puppy videos and a pic!!!
