Hilton Head with Diane & Mark

We spent Saturday (11/30) doing laundry and packing to get ready for our trip.  Michael saw some great decorated garage doors while he was out walking Freya:

I changed out the wreath on the front door....so it now looks like this (remember....I made this back in July I think!):

And for some reason, Ethel thought the old wreath was a perfect place to ''rest'' until we got it back downstairs and put away....silly kitty!!!

Dec 1 – 7

We spent a FABULOUS week in Hilton Head with Diane and Mark!  They have a time share, and decided this year to go to Hilton Head…and asked us along.

We visited the Coastal Discovery Place (very neat!) and a farmer’s market where I scored lots of totally cool stuff….mostly food, but 2 woven towels….one for a gift and one for us:

-this is really more teal than it looks in this picture! I had a lovely time talking with the woman who wove these towels

We visited Beaufort (and saw the house from THE BIG CHILL movie) and Bluffton, hit up a kitchen store (which I loved as I haven’t been in one in FOREVER!!) and while the guys golfed:

-these signs were everywhere!!

-an interesting clump that Michael sent to son Marc, hoping for identification!

this is what the dining room table looked like while they were golfing:

Diane also took me to a FABULOUS quilt store…and I bought lots of lovely things:

-I love Villa Rose patterns and haven't been in a store with them for quite awhile....so I picked up 2 while I was there

-and I'm getting a tiny bit smarter about buying jelly rolls. I have a pattern that takes 22 strips....so I can get 2 quilt tops out of a jelly roll, as long as I add 4 strips. I can generally find something in my stash to use...unless the jelly roll has all the same pattern in the strips as this one does. So I bought 2 yards of matching fabric for the 4 added strips, and for binding on 2 quilts. I think I skewed this one more man-ish by pulling in more of the brown. Can't wait to get started.

-I just loved this marbelized fabric and think it will go well as a background for my ''man themed'' quilts

-of course this is my color and I found it on the sale rack...marked down to 10 bucks a yard....

-I have a tablet of paper beside all of my machines as I am forever getting ideas for quilts or figuring out sizes for blocks and for quilts. The pad with my portable machine is getting low, so I picked up this new one.

-they gave us this panel for free as we were leaving....I will definitely be giving it away....speak now if you are interested.

We even watched the ISS fly over one night....it was SO BRIGHT and easy to spot on the totally dark golf course that was right out our back door!

The best part of the trip was that every night…we played board games!!!  We played Sequence, and Golf, and Screwed and Ranson Notes and Scattagories and Farkel and Sevens.  And on Friday we went to play Putt Putt and had hot chocolate on the way home.

It was a really wonderful week and I am so glad Diane and Mark took a chance (because who really knew what would happen with us all living together for a week!) and invited us!

We had a very relaxing ‘’recovery’’ day on Sunday (12/8)...including the babies:

We slept in….had a leisurely breakfast:

then I read my book most of the day, while Michael did a few errands and watched a taped UCONN ladies game.  We had date night with our traditional champagne and puffy things (puffy things ended up being a leftover blackened shrimp taco with sweet potato tater tots!)

while watching the 3 hour finale of MASH (with interviews with the stars interspersed)…..all in all a great ending to a wonderful week with good friends.

And 10 years go...

Sounds like a wonderful week ! How much fabric of your color did you score ? I want to know how you go away for a week and then spend a 'leisurely' day on your first day home ?!?!?!
