Iris 9 patch, SHQ Show & Tell, Pam R

A note from Senator Bernie Sanders - Because of tRUMP's ''Big Beautiful Bill'', the ICE budget - 28 BILLION - is now larger than the annual budgets of the FBI, DEA, ATF, US Marshalls Service and the Bureau of Prisons COMBINED.

Michael headed out super early to the Ford dealership on Tuesday morning (1/13) for an oil change and other basic maintenance, while I continued quilting.  Iris came over for a quilting lesson:

She has already finished all of her applique heart blocks, now we are working on the 9 patch blocks.

Around 1 PM we headed to Ballentyne for her mammogram, then stopped for lunch at the new Miami Café on the way home:

We were supposed to have THAI food, but her mammogram took extra long…and when we headed there, we found out they are closed from 2:30 PM to 5 PM….BIG BUMMER!!!

Michael headed out to his usual TV night movies, and I knit and watched a NETFLIX movie THE UNLIKELY PILGRIMAGE OF HAROLD FRY….worth a look for a feel good/bittersweet (thanks for the word Laura!!) , true to how life sometimes is, movie.

I video chatted with Janice Wednesday morning (1/14) while my honey was out golfing….I can’t believe how long he stayed out there as it was around 40 degrees and misting….he finally came home before 11 AM and took a hot shower as he was cold and wet!  I had a bite to eat before leaving for my massage.  It’s been a long time since I had one and it was heaven.

By the time I stopped at the bank and got caught up a bit on blog entries….it was after 3 PM before I got back to doing anything crafty.  I got my 4 patch quilt trimmed and on the to-be-bound pile (I have the binding already made):

and also finished sewing together the bottom 4 rows of the QoV:

Michael and Larry headed out for yet another movie (that's THREE this week!)...a re-showing of an old one...THE OUTSIDERS...and Pam came over for a nice, long chat.

About a year ago, Pam announced that she was going to be moving back to Wisconsin, to be near her only remaining family....a cousin she is close to. When Michael and I were on our trip up to see the kids last June, we went to a craft fair,...I think in Connecticut...and I found these gorgeous hand woven towels that I thought would be an appropriate going away gift to show Pam how much I would miss her. She subsequently decided to stay here (yay!!!), and I decided to give her the towels anyway. She loved them and I think I picked the perfect colors....see how the gold matches the shirt she has on? I can't wait to see her using them in her kitchen.

Thursday (1/15) was all about quilting, with another new member joining us (that only leaves 1 on the waiting list).  I got to show my 2 QoV’s and I think both were well received, and we had a bit more show and tell:

I finished off the inside of a dialysis quilt at quilting…just have to add borders, and everyone really liked how cheerful it looked:

I had a hearing aid appointment afterwards, so didn’t get to my studio until 5 PM.

I got the backing and batting loaded on for the first of Sandy’s quilts…but that was as far as I got before I collapsed.

I had breakfast Friday morning (1/16) with Sally.  I headed to SUMO donuts and picked up 2 egg/bacon/cheese sandwiches on brioche buns and took them over to her house, where she had a lovely fruit salad.  I got to hear all about her trip to Italy and it sounded magical.  We talked and talked and I didn’t get home until 12:30 PM!

By then, Michael was out to lunch with Ed to celebrate his birthday.  I started right in on making Susie’s raspberry/chocolate tart for dessert, with a few changes.  I decided that a cookie crust would be too sweet for me…so made a graham cracker crust instead.  Let me tell you….ground up graham crackers with melted butter on them smell like HEAVEN!  I had baked it for 10 minutes by the time Michael came home…and he agreed.  Then I didn’t have any raspberry jam, but I did have raspberry pie filling, so I cooked that down and decided to use it as a garnish instead of in the pie.  I used a little bit less whipping cream than it called for, and the MERKENS chocolate left over from my Christmas candy making.

Everyone who ate a piece seemed to really enjoy it:

After that, Michael and put together a chicken pot pie…and cornbread muffins on the side.  Laura & Dave and Diane & Mark showed up at 6 PM, and we had dinner and decided to play TRIPOLI in the evening:

I think everyone had a good time, and Michael and I read our books for about an hour after everyone left.

And 10 years ago....
