Janice completes 3 quilts, Memorial Day parade at Paula's

Fun fact: Due to the Republican policies of trickle-down and deregulation:

• Executive pay has increased over 1,000% in 40 years

• Typical worker pay? Only around 24%

They have created a storm of confusion where people don't know who to trust, or are trusting the wrong people, and are economically voting against themselves.

---------------------------------------------

Instead of honoring the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country, Donald Trump marked Memorial Day with a bitter, grievance-filled screed attacking judges, immigrants, and his political rivals. In a post that read more like a campaign rant than a solemn tribute, Trump wrote:

“HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY TO ALL, INCLUDING THE SCUM THAT SPENT THE LAST FOUR YEARS TRYING TO DESTROY OUR COUNTRY...”

He then spiraled into a tirade about “radical left minds,” “mentally insane” immigrants, and “USA hating judges” — with no mention whatsoever of the fallen service members for whom this day is meant.

This kind of rhetoric on a national day of mourning is not only inappropriate — it’s a stark reminder of how Trump continues to place personal vendettas above national unity and respect for those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Michael left for golf by 8 AM Saturday morning (5/24) while Janice and I spent the morning in the studio….I worked on the disappearing hourglass (still sewing blocks into rows):

while Janice got her first quilt loaded up:

We had a rare sighting in the backyard (don't blink during the video or you'll miss it....there were 2, but I only got the second one), and I barely got my camera going to catch it:

We headed upstairs around 11 AM (I had already made Strawcello Martinis the previous day) to put together a charcuterie board and a bit of dessert:

and ladies started arriving at NOON.

I invited a group of ladies who sew a lot, especially for charity, to come and help me sort through Jan’s fabric.  I knew it would all be beautiful (Jan has EXCELLENT taste) and I knew I couldn’t possibly keep it all….so I thought I needed to ‘’share the wealth’’.

I tried to make it fun….we had a lightening round for each box:

then everyone got a chance to dive in:

I think it would have been a perfect number if 2 more people had come, but they dropped out at the last minute.

People seemed to have a lot of fun and after 3-1/2 hours, we were finally done!  Everyone left and Janice and I collapsed for an hour or so before heading back to the studio.

She got a bit more energy and got the program set up and a bit of quilting done:

before finally quitting around 8 PM.

*******************************************

Janice and I were up early on Sunday (5/25) to dive back into quilting:

and by lunchtime, her first quilt was done:

She quickly loaded up a second one and got busy quilting:

while I spent most of the day cataloguing my portion of Jan’s fabric and getting about half of it put away.  While Janice was quilting:

she also laid out a new quilt top for me. I bought a pattern with Diane back in December, and I found a drawer full of previously made HST's among my many drawers of random blocks, et voila:

I have been wanting to make my honey waffles for the last 2 weekends…and never managed it, but I got the batter made in the morning, and that’s what we had for dinner:

*********************************************************

I got bread dough put together and set for the first rise on Monday morning (5/26) before we all headed up to Paula’s for the Memorial Day golf cart parade.  She had a good crowd:

and the parade was actually pretty short:

but it was nice to see and visit with everyone.

When we came home it was time to shape my loaves and in order to do that, I weigh the entire blob of dough first.  This being Memorial Day, I just had to take a picture of the weight on my scale:

Too crazy!  Maybe it's telling me I need to bake bread on the 4th of July as well?!

Anyway, I got that shaped and Michael said he would take care of baking it (and taking a half a loaf down to Paula as a thank you for hosting),

so I headed downstairs to join Janice, who was finishing up her second quilt:

and loading up her 3rd:

In the fabric from Jan, I found a bunch of fruit and vegetable fabric…and ‘’dream Debbie’’ has wanted to make placemats for MEALS IN WHEELS for YEARS…..so this is the time!  Janice arranged it all for me:

and I started ironing and cutting.  I’m going to make strata as my leaders and enders project and those darn placemats are gonna finally be created THIS YEAR!!!

She worked on the 3rd quilt all day:

-Arizona Mary.....Cool Beans!!!!

while I finally got all of my disappearing hourglass blocks into rows…and by dinner time, she was done:

My honey made us a great Memorial Day dinner of hot dogs and macaroni salad and we spent the evening working through our accumulated DEATH IN PARADISE recordings.

And 10 years ago....

*** I started jogging today….I didn’t want to, but the ice cream truck kept driving. ***

*** Some days you realize you're surrounded by idiots....other days you realize it's not just some days... ***
