Janice & Dennis head for home, HST top done, Sausage gravy, SHQ Show & Tell

This is what this president spends his time doing.....

Already mired in an unpopular war in the Middle East, buffeted by a struggling job market and a cratering stock market, and facing new questions about his involvement with convicted sex traffickerJeffrey Epstein, Donald Trump saw fit to use his widely-viewed Truth Social platform on Monday morning to lash out at HBO host Bill Maher.

We didn’t have much soup leftover from making it on Friday, so I got another crockpot of Sausage Soup going on Monday morning (3/2).  Then I spent a good bit of time getting a blog entry out before settling back into piecing/quilting.

Janice & Dennis arrived back from Hawaii around lunchtime, having flown all night.  They were both very tired, but determined to stay awake until their normal bedtime, to get back to their regular sleep schedule that much quicker.

Michael was home from golf shortly afterwards, so he and Dennis watched a UCONN basketball game, while Janice helped me to lay out more blocks on the crossroads quilt…going from this:

to this:

We had sausage soup for dinner, then played FIVE CROWNS, with Dennis being the big winner.

-Dennis being totally silly after I asked him to look up and smile..... :~)

And our baby was as good as gold....staying in her bed and not bothering us:

It was still kind of early, and Janice & Dennis still wanted to stay awake, so we played a round of SCREWED, and finally it was 10:30 PM and everyone was exhausted and went to bed.

We’ve been watching AFTER LIFE on NETFLIX with Ricky Gervais, and we just finished season 2.  I think there are only 3 seasons and I truly don’t want it to end!

We all got up around the same time Tuesday morning (3/3) and we all seemed in concert as the 4 of us moved about the kitchen getting all of our breakfasts together and sitting down to read on various electronic devices….I wish they lived here!!!!

Anyway, all too soon, Janice & Dennis packed up and hit the road:

Michael left for his chiro appointment…and I hit my studio.

I worked on my HST quilt, and by dinnertime, I had added a black border all the way around, and had pre-cut pieces to go across the top and bottom, so this top is finished:

Michael left to go to his monthly Mustang Club and I knit the night away while watching Mrs Doubtfire.

Michael left for golf before 9 AM Wednesday morning (3/4) and I video chatted with Janice, then had a lovely long talk with Pam R before finally starting to make my sausage gravy for quilting on Thursday (yes, I'm taking biscuits and gravy for my contribution):

I finally hit my studio in the early afternoon.

I can’t procrastinate with Iris’s quilt any longer as I now have 5 customer quilts in the pipeline, so it was back to ‘’break’’ city :~(.  By 3:30 PM the quilting was done and I started the long ‘’slog’’ of sewing in ends….I was determined to finish them before I went upstairs for dinner...and I did!

We had a totally delightful breakfast at quilting on Thursday (3/5).  We decided instead of our usual first-of-the-month luncheon, we would do a breakfast and it was outstanding.  I thought about taking pictures Wednesday night, but totally forgot on Thursday, and that was too bad because everything was beautiful and delicious!  We’ve decided that we might want to do that once a quarter.

Other than that, I worked on my regular project, but truly didn’t get very far….guess I was too busy having fun.  We had a bit of show and tell:

and I showed my ‘’circle’’ block:

and then gave it to Janet (she LOVES purple)….she was THRILLED!  And I was glad it didn’t go into my orphan block box to die a slow death….

Michael was still out golfing when I got home, but when he got home we spent a bit of time getting dates and addresses into our calendars for 3 medical appointments…..a receptionist called us on the way to quilting this morning (Michael dropped me off at quilting because he needed the car) and while we were driving we got this call to schedule an echocardiogram, his pacemaker battery replacement and the follow-up after surgery.  This came totally out of the blue as he had previously been scheduled for the echocardiogram for March 16th, with replacement surgery to follow sometime after that.  Guess they had an opening in the schedule and were trying to slot him in.

I know I've written before about the Pittsburgh (where I was born and raised!) cookie table (at weddings), I read this on FB and it is SO TRUE:

There are desserts… and then there’s a Pittsburgh Cookie Table.

Not a tray....Not a platter....A structural event.

Somewhere in Western Pennsylvania, a fire marshal feels a disturbance in the force every time one gets assembled. Folding tables pushed together like a family reunion of plywood. Layers. Tiers. Strategic reinforcements. This isn’t catering. This is civil engineering with butter. It starts innocent. “We’ll just do a few dozen.”

And then Aunt Carol shows up with seven tins. Aunt Denise refuses to be outdone.

Someone’s grandmother quietly adds another 14 varieties “just in case.”

Suddenly you’re staring at a carb skyline. Snowball cookies stacked like insulation.

Thumbprints glistening under reception hall lighting. Lady Locks lined up with military precision. And 400 wedding guests pretending they’ll “just take one.”

This isn’t dessert. It’s legacy. It’s pride. It’s passive-aggressive affection expressed through powdered sugar. It’s the only place where grown adults form a defensive strategy before approaching baked goods.

And the best part? Everyone acts casual. “Oh this? We just threw something together.” Ma’am. This is an edible monument.

If you’ve ever guarded your favorite cookie flavor like it was Steelers playoff tickets, you understand.

And 10 years ago....

*** I got caught up in a really good book last night....I didn't stop coloring until 2 AM. ***
