MESIG Show & Tell & cookie class, quilting started on tulip/butterfly quilt

President Trump said Tuesday that he "could be" seeking $230 million from his own Justice Department as compensation for past investigations into him. "All I know is that they would owe me a lot of money. But I'm not looking for money," Trump said in the Oval Office, adding that he'd give away the money to charity or use it to renovate the White House. Though many of the details remain unclear, Trump acknowledged the unprecedented nature of the situation in which he would be potentially "paying himself" damages to resolve claims that the Justice Department under his predecessor had wronged him. "It's awfully strange to make a decision where I'm paying myself," Trump said. A settlement to Trump would come from taxpayer funds.

Monday morning (10/20) I finished off Sandy’s 3rd quilt:

and got all of my bobbin ends woven in and everything off of the frame:

and we dropped them off at her house on the way up to the Lake House for Machine Embroidery.

We had a bit of show and tell:

ree

-I absolutely adore this.....and think she did a terrific job with her ''framing''

but our real program was cookie decorating, taught by the same woman that Iris and I go to:

It was just as much fun as always, and Michael and I definitely enjoyed the cookies once I got home.

I finished making new strata for my Mirror, mirror quilt and got it sewn down on both sides when I got home….of course I forgot to take a picture of the strata…here’s the piece that was left:

I think I need 2 more small borders and it will be ready to quilt.

Michael had his usual busy Tuesday (10/21) of dog walking and working out and errands (library to drop off books and complete early voting, pet store, COVID shot, Comporium (whoops office has moved…will have to find a new one somewhere)) while Iris and I worked a bit on her tulip/butterfly quilts.

She had a few little hiccups on the borders, but we got those all fixed and they are ready to be quilted!!!  And I think I have the perfect backing fleece for these quilts (of course as soon as I unrolled it, Lucy had to get in on the action!):

ree

I think she has done a tremendous job considering that she has never done any of this before, and most of it was done ON HER OWN after just getting some verbal instructions from me.

Now that both of her girls have some time away from home (kindergarten and nature classroom), we are going to set up ‘’official’’ quilting lessons on Tuesday mornings and the first thing we will be working on is a Valentine’s quilt.  So…if you have any Valentine’s fabric, or just pink/red fabric (especially batiks) that you would like to donate…..just let me know!  She is going through my stash and has already picked out a bunch….I am SO EXCITED about creating a brand new quilter!!!  The Valentine’s quilt will have both piecing and applique, and she left here today with instructions on practicing rotary cutting…with some leftover fabric.

I got Iris’s quilts all pressed, and loaded up a double length of backing….got the first quilt basted on and got the first 2 rows done:

before stopping for dinner.

Michael saw on an email that the crab truck was at the Lake House…and we had both been feeling very chilly during the day….so he picked up 2 containers of crab bisque for our dinner….heaven!

I forgot to mention that when Michael got home from all of his errands....he also hit the studio and laid out my latest Thursday project:

Michael was up at 6:30 AM on Wednesday (10/22) and left before 8 AM for golf.  I got laundry started and polished off another row on Iris’s quilt:

before video chatting with Janice.

After that I headed across the street for bloodwork, and then to get my hair done.

On the way to the hairdresser’s, I got some awful news….a friend in Connecticut has been diagnosed with a glioblastoma….the same type of tumor that killed our friend Jimmy A many, many years ago.  This is horrible news as she has been through the ringer already for these past 2 years…and now this.  I have found out that her favorite color is blue…and I am THRILLED that the top I made (awhile ago) out of really pretty blue fabric is still in my tops cupboard!  So, getting it quilted and bound and in the mail just got added to my TODO list.

When I got home, I finished the quilting on the first tulip/butterfly quilt and got the second laid on and one row done before stopping for the evening.

And 10 years ago.....

Love your cookie class - that looks like so much fun and the finished cookies are adorable!

How are you going to quilt the prairie points on Iris's quilt - are you going to stitch on them or what? I have a quilt with prairie points that I need to finish but couldn't figure what to do with the points!
