Mustang Experience, Janice QoV top, FPF Rainbow top finished

I headed to the studio early Sunday morning (10/20) as I wanted to finish the quilting on Pam’s quilt before we left.  Because Michael bought a 2024 Mustang, we were invited to a ‘’Mustang Experience’’ at the Concord raceway and it environs on Sunday and Monday.  We got packed and headed out around 3 PM.  We checked into our hotel:

-we were up on the 10th floor...it was certainly an experience riding the elevator!

-they even had a Chilhuly in the lobby

and headed on over to the MUSTANG UNLEASHED place:

for a lovely dinner and to meet all of the other participants.  We heard about everything we would be doing on Monday and were very excited.

Bright and early Monday morning (10/21) we headed back to MUSTANG Unleashed and got our orientation in the classroom:

But soon we started our poker run.  We visited a variety of places…the Mustang Owners Museum:

the CUBB Center (made his money as a producer in the music scene, then got into racing):

and the RFK Museum, and we collected a poker card along the way at each stop.

We stopped for lunch, then headed to ‘’the track’’.  First up was the ‘’moose wall’’…training on how to steer around an unexpected problem in the road (as in a deer or moose jumps onto the road in front of you).  Michael was already a pro at this, but I wiped out a bunch of orange cones along the way :~).  Then it was driving the vintage Mustangs….6 Mustangs….from 1965 all the way up to 2004…WHAT a difference in how cars have changed over the years.  Finally, we did the timed obstacle course…that was my favorite part of the day, as thanks to coaching from the staff after the moose wall…I didn’t wipe out any cones….and wasn’t the slowest either!

We also got a chance to drive on the Concord race track....MAN...that thing is BANKED!!! It was scary:

We headed back to the class room to see who won the timed obstacle course…and who had the best poker hand:

Yep...it was us with 2 pair!

We were finally home around 6:30 and we were both beat…it was a great experience. And of course, we celebrated with champagne:

and pot stickers for our puffy things! Our fabulous house/dog/cat sitter Kathy sent pics the entire time we were gone...here's one of the babies:

Michael took off Tuesday morning (10/22) for a haircut, while Diane, Pam, Cindy and I took off for Quilt Patch in Stallings.  I had a gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket and bought some beautiful fabric with it!

We stopped for lunch at a great mom ‘n’ pop diner on the way home (can’t wait to go back), and after Cindy GOOGLE’d how to fix my beeping, unlatched trunk (can you say ‘thuck’), we finally made it home around 2 PM.

I will hopefully be teaching a class on a disappearing 9 patch block next year at Scrap Happy (speaking of which, check out this disappearing 9 patch top that Janice just completed as a QoV):

One of the things I bought this morning was background fabric for the quilt I want to do.  Of course I am HOT to start it….but I had a stern talk with myself and instead worked on some UFO’s.  I got the small border on the FPF Rainbow:

and that is now labeled and in the to-be-quilted closet.  I’ve gotta get it slipped in between customer quilts, as I would like to have it completely finished by the end of the year for a Beds=Dreams.  Next up was working on the green Stonehenge quilt top, where I got all of the rows sewn together:

Now I just have to make border strips and get them attached.  My honey and I settled in in the evening to watch episode 3 & 4 of Moonflower Murders…..of course I didn’t want to go to bed at the end of episode 4…because they ALWAYS leave you with a cliff hanger…but we’ll finally get to see the end Wednesday night.

And 10 years ago....

What a grand experience!

I’d love to make a quilt like the one Janice just made... Eager for that class.

Yup that track is steep. I ride it once when Ken was able to drive around by himself on it. I had a professional driver 😊 Did Michael do the driving in your car??
