Current COVID related deaths:
COVID deaths yesterday: 634,662
More than 98% of US residents now live in an area with a "high" or "substantial" risk of Covid-19 community transmission -- a CDC metric that involves case numbers and test positivity rates. A mere month ago, that figure was at only 19%. In some areas, like Cobb County in Georgia, some schools have already had to switch to virtual learning to keep kids safe from rising infections.
I thought this was interesting -
There’s a story about people on a boat. A guy decided to dig through the floor of his cabin…water flows in. Other passengers are pissed, but it’s his own cabin, the guy argues, so why should it matter? Personal choice only goes so far when we’re all on the same boat.

Michael left for golf on Wednesday morning (8/11) and I finally made my way downstairs and got my blog out by 10 AM. As usual, it took a long time as I had many photos. After that I loaded up one of my quilts:
I really need to get 2 small quilts done on this fleece as I have FIVE customer quilts in the pipeline!!! People have been calling to get on my schedule and I’ve ended up with a bunch. I don’t have the quilts in my house…because I don’t like to keep customer quilts for a long time as you never know what could happen to them, so people call me when they have completely finished the top and back and I schedule them into the queue. Lucy was sprawled out on the to-be-bound pile the entire time I was working:
My honey was home around NOON, having only played 9 holes. I was so glad that with this heat, he opted to just do 9. He laid out my scrap 4 patches (you remember, the ones with all of the clips on the other day):
I got the program set up and bobbins wound and kicked off my quilting:
While that was stitching out, I worked on sewing together rows for the second half of the Christmas quilt.
The sister of a friend called me to ask about recovery from shoulder surgery, as she is a potential candidate. She is a single lady who lives alone…and I just laughed at what the surgeon said….he indicated that she would probably be in the hospital 4 – 5 days and then a week in rehab and then she would be fine at home. I told her not to listen to the surgeon as they have NO IDEA!!! Better sources are people of her age who have had the surgery…or even physical therapy people. I still could not dress myself at 2 weeks out….or dry myself after a shower….or tie my own shoes…or a bunch of other stuff! We talked for quite awhile and I think I gave her some good tips, as well as a more realistic assessment of what recovery would be like, and things she should do the day BEFORE any surgery.
Michael left around 4:30 for 9 more holes of golf with Ralph. I’m not sure if Michael was actually going to play…or only ride around and keep Ralph company…while I continued to quilt. He got home before 7 PM, but I didn’t make it upstairs until 8:30. I really wanted to get all of the rows on the second half of the Christmas quilt put together…and that’s how long it took me….each of those rows are HUGE!
