Pickled onions, tires

The US plans to destroy nearly 500 metric tons of taxpayer-funded emergency food, the State Department confirmed. The nutrient-dense biscuits, which have been sitting in a Dubai warehouse for months, were supposed to help feed starving people around the world. The destruction of the critically needed food would not have happened prior to the Trump administration’s destruction of the US Agency for International Development, a former USAID official said. Two rations of biscuits a day are enough to stop people from dying, they added. Now that the food is about to expire, it must be destroyed; that will cost American taxpayers another $100,000. “This is the definition of waste,” the former official said.

So, I'm supposed to believe the Supreme Court when they say that Biden couldn't do executive action on student loans, environmental regulations, SNAP benefits and more without Congress, but tRUMP can completely gut those agencies without Congress?

Michael had to be at the SUBARU place by 8 AM on Friday (7/11). So he was up and out very early.  I took a quick shower and headed out myself for an 8 AM PT appointment.  When I got home I had a bit of breakfast, then made a batch of pickled red onion (since the cucumber pickles were such a success!!):

before heading to the studio to load up a new customer quilt:

My newest customer brought me THREE of them….and I want to knock them out in short order :~).  I worked on that quilt for the rest of the day.

Michael left early for Saturday golf (7/12), armed with cooling neck wraps and a fan to hopefully allow him to beat the heat.  He has definitely gotten more and more affected by it these past few years and it’s interfering a great deal with his ability to get through 18 holes of golf.

I headed to the studio to continue to work on a customer quilt…she picked a very pretty, but very labor intensive stitch out:

so even though the quilt is small, I was not finished with it until dinnertime:

Remember this quilt top from the other day?:

I am so in love with this quilt block that I decided I want to do some with batiks.  June gave me a stack of 2-1/2 inch squares at quilting:

and I dug through my scrap bag and got out all of my batik scraps and cut additional squares where I could:

This is going to be a long term project….I am filling a shoe box with the squares and when it’s full I’ll start to sew them together and make the blocks….so you’re gonna have to stay tuned for a long time :~).

SPINE UPDATE: When I went to PT last time, I had a long talk with one of the therapists.  After an appointment last week….when I wasn’t making any progress….my therapist was leaning towards surgery being in my future.  My talk this week was what kinds of restrictions I was going to have, and for how long, after surgery.  This therapist nixed many of the things I do (on a daily basis!) for at least 6 weeks….so in the back of my mind I am putting together projects I could sew…that wouldn’t need any additional cutting….for just such an eventuality.  Stay tuned….

Sunday morning (7/13) my honey baked up some cinnamon rolls:

while I got my customer quilt off of the rails: and trimmed.  After that I loaded up her second quilt:

And got everything ready and kicked off the quilting:

Again, it’s another labor intensive stitch out, but she was so pleased with the first quilt that I am looking forward to getting this one to her as well.  While that was stitching out, I worked on cutting and marking denim pieces to make a new ‘’range finder pouch’’ for my honey.

We started to watch a new, very gritty but compelling show on NETFLIX called Dept Q.

I had an exciting Monday morning (7/14).  I headed to Rock Hill to meet with Joyce’s upholsterer, and on the way there I got a ‘’low tire pressure’’ warning.  Of course I had to call Michael to find out how to change my dashboard display to see the tire pressure and I was almost to my destination when I finally got them up……35…….34……34…….5…..FIVE?!?!?!?

I pulled into the parking area and by the time I got out of my car and looked at it….yep, it was totally flat.  I went into the business and we got everything sorted out and I started to call Triple A when they said they could put air in my tire…apparently they use a compressor to drive the staple gun.  Anyway, they blew it up and moved it into the shade, and the next thing I knew:  ZOOP….ZOOP…

my spare tire was on and I was driving back home!!!!  I’ve definitely gotta put together some baked goods to take to Brian when I go back in a couple of weeks to pick up my stuff!

I spent the afternoon quilting on my customer quilt, but also got binding made:

and a label:

for my ever growing pile of quilted tops:

PS – I know a young very deserving woman moving into her first apartment and she has NOTHING!  If you are getting rid of kitchen/house old items and/or furniture, and are local to me, please let me know!!!

Love you customer's quilts! That certainly sucks if you have to have surgery on your back. Michael's cinnamon roll looked delicious!
