Pound Cake Class, Foust, SHQ Show & Tell

President Donald Trump dropped a new riff on his election lies by telling troops that he won the popular vote in 2016 “by a lot” — thereby inventing millions of votes he did not win.

Trump has spent years falsely claiming that the 2020 election was “rigged” against him and/or “stolen” from him, despite the fact that Biden defeated Trump in an electoral landslide that has been reaffirmed over and over by state officials from Trump’s own party and dozens of court decisions.

But he won the 2016 election despite losing the popular vote by almost 3 million votes.

My honey left early on Tuesday (2/10) for a haircut and the chiro, and I headed to the studio to get Sara’s quilt fully loaded up and basted.

I got that done before it was time to pick up Pat to go into Lancaster for our Pound Cake cooking class:

It was a lot of fun….but very long…I didn’t get home until just before 5 PM.  We made 3 different kids of pound cakes: old fashioned, cream cheese and lemon. The coolest thing was…I had watched BECOMING on NETFLIX on Monday (the Michelle Obama documentary) and there was a woman in our class who looked just like her!  She said when Barack was running for president, people used to stop her on the street constantly!

My honey left within an hour of my coming home, and I did a little bit of kitchen work before I collapsed.  We all decided that the ‘’old fashioned’’ pound cake was kind of dry….now I have made several of the Caribbean rum cakes, where you make a syrup with rum, and poke holes in the cake and pour the syrup over…..and I knew I had some Limoncello, so I made the syrup with that and poured it over the cake.  When Michael came home from the movies, he had a piece and pronounced it yummy!!!!  The rest of it is going into quilting on Thursday!

Iris came over for a visit and since we were both beat, we just sat in the living room and talked…and she made fast friends with Lucy:

I was up at o’dark hundred on Wednesday (2/11) to pick up Cindy, Cathy & Sharon (Cindy & Sharon were first timers!!)

and head to Kings Mountain for the semi-annual Foust sale.  I had a totally empty trunk on the way there….and this is what it looked like when we got home:

I bought 2 bolts of 108'' wide for backings:

some embroidery stabelizer, and 2 packs of fat quarters for the newish pattern I just got:

On the way down, Sharon pointed out a farm that gows winter strawberries, so we stopped there on the way home and all of us bought buckets. We also got ice cream cones to keep up our energy after a hard morning of fabric shopping :~).

I was home by 1 PM and totally beat…but I really wanted to try to get Sara’s quilt done in time for quilting on Thursday, so I headed to the basement and fired up XENA and kicked off quilting.  I quit just before 3 PM and went across the street for a massage, but as soon as I was back home, I started in to quilting again.  I continued to work until almost 7 PM, but couldn’t get it finished :~(.

Thursday (2/12) was all about quilting…..and other than the fact that Diane wasn’t there, it was a totally fun day.  Everyone was talking about what they bought at FOUST and how much fun it was….many, many people were first timers….so that is always fun.

We had a class on making rice bags for the microwave:

And other lovely show & tell:

I finally got enough of my 4 patches sewn into 16 patches to put together the first 2 rows of my quilt.  This is the quilt I tried to figure out with quilt math and a pencil and paper, but I have 2 different sized blocks and 2 different patterned rows, and I just couldn’t do it.  So, I told myself to just wait and get enough done to do the first 2 different rows…and then I could figure things out.  I counted and re-counted my 4 patches and have figured out that I have enough to finish the inside of the quilt (it will definitely need borders to hit the size I want).  I am very glad because at one point I thought I needed to make 24 more 4 patches…and I stopped sewing because I didn’t want the new patches to show up all in the bottom row, in different fabrics.  But when I counted a second time, it all came out right and now I just have to sew-sew-sew!!!  I do need to make a few more of my ‘’spacer’’ strips…I hope to figure out how many more I need sometime this week and get them cut.

When I came home from quilting (after stops at the library, the bank, and Susan’s house to drop off receipts), once again I was just beat and then only thing I managed to get done before dinner was to press a pile of black/white 4 patches:

Pam R came by shortly before dinner:

and we had a lovely chat about lots of different topics.  She dropped off a couple of food gifts she thought I might like before leaving.

And a lovely little show of gifted quilts from friend Leila....don't you wish she was YOUR friend??????

QUESTION - Does anyone out there use GMAIL? If yes, is there any way to sort your emails so that old ones are at the top and newest ones at the bottom? If yes, could you please tell me how to do it? I will be viewing on a desktop computer.....
