During a healthcare announcement on drug prices earlier this year, HHS Secretary RFK Jr. revealed in his remarks that Donald Trump took $100 million from pharmaceutical companies. Trump nodded his head in agreement, openly admitting to bribery.

I headed up to the library Monday morning (12/8) for the craft group…there were only 3 of us, but we had a good time. And the best news is, one of the ladies, Karen, is hoping to join the Fiber Nutz!!! I’m going to volunteer to host in January so that at least she’ll be going somewhere where she knows one of the participants….we are both excited by this!
I was home by NOON and spent the rest of the day continuing to clean up in my sewing room. I have a basket at the top of the stairs, where I put things that belong in the basement. It was definitely overflowing and Janice carried the entire thing down before she left. I could NOT believe how much stuff was in that basket, and how long it took me to put everything away :~).
I read a new library book for much of the day after that, but also did manage to put together my last run of candy (pretzel toffee)

and thanks to Michael, got 3 boxes of stuff put together to be mailed out on Tuesday.
Michael and I made turkey noodle soup for dinner and watched several cooking shows in the evening, as well as another Christmas move: THE CHRISTMAS STORY.

My honey headed out Tuesday morning (12/9) to work out and hit the post office to mail off the boxes. I spent the morning in the studio and managed to get the rest of a quilt loaded up

and the program set up and bobbins wound before leaving for my massage, a bit of shopping at ALDI’s and the dentist. You know, now that it is so cold and I have the heat on downstairs, Lucy visits her cat tree as I'm sure it is very warm up at the ceiling:

I didn’t make it home until 5 PM where my honey was warming up soup for dinner before leaving for the movies. I got 2 rows done on the quilt:

before heading upstairs to knit and watch TV.

Michael left around 10 AM on Wednesday (12/10) for golf, even though it was still in the 30’s…..brr_r_r!!!! I was in the middle of chatting with Janice, and when I was done, I got one more pass done on the current customer quilt before leaving for the hairdressers.
I was home by about 3 PM and got the quilt finished:

before changing and heading to the Lake House for the Democratic Club party.
I packed a basket of 4 different kinds of candy treats, and a half gallon of homemade Bailey’s to share at our table and we were off. Everyone loved the treats I brought, and the dinner was excellent as well. They had a beautiful cake for dessert:

The highlight for me was when one of the other guests...a knitter....came over to compliment me on Michael's sweater and to ask whether I set the sleeves in or knit them down. Because of the type of cable on the sleeve, I knew I had set them in, and she was amazed and said they were PERFECT! If I go to the next meeting, she asked me to bring my current knitting project, and to show her my entrelac sweater.
DJ Dixie did his usual stellar job and Michael and I were both beat by the time we came home.

And on behalf of teachers everywhere, I'm posting this very thoughtful note from someone who knows (from one of the FB groups I belong to);
In this Non-Consumer Advocate group, I'd like to point out that there's a post this morning with over 380 comments from a parent who is short on cash, stressing about what to do for the childrens' teachers for Christmas.
Let's re-think the "need" to give physical items to the people in our lives...the postal worker, the UPS guy, the teacher, the hair dresser, yada yada yada. Almost all of the teachers posting have said that they do not need anything at all, that a note/card is the only thing a teacher will treasure and keep. A note or card is also the only gift that is truly in keeping with this group's goals.
Yet as a society, we don't seem to be able to let go of giving SOMETHING. From food kits, baked good, homemade sachets, etc, the list of suggestions is endless. If you think about an elementary teacher, who has perhaps 25 students in the class, that means she could easily receive 25 gifts of candies/baked goods/mugs/gift cards etc. She can't possibly incorporate all of this stuff into her household! And it happens every year! A lifetime of mugs, ornaments, junk that isn't even from people who know her personally.
I was a secondary teacher, I had at least 25 students on average in every hour, so that was more than 175 students per day. If even 20% of my students gave me gifts, that's 35 students giving me gifts. I'm overweight, always trying to lose weight and I have allergies. So right away, if they are all giving me food or scented things, these are not helpful to me. Not really a gift! Next, if they give me "stuff", how many mugs/pens/bookmarks etc can I actually incorporate year after year into my life? It's TOO much, most goes to Goodwill.
The only real answer for gift giving, if we care about this planet, each other's health, the landfills, etc, is to stop the endless need to constantly give a THING.
From a full career of teaching, in my home, there is ONE Christmas ornament from a student that I kept. There's also a card board box full of notes/pictures that students or parents gave me that I occasionally take out and enjoy for the memories.
Even the plastic containers/tins that candy gifts to the mail carrier hold, end up in the landfill. Give your mail carrier a hand-written note and tell them how much you appreciate their work. I bet they don't hear enough of that.
We can do this!
Finally, if you are not short on money and want to spend for a teacher, I'd suggest that you actually give the teacher a card with a small amount of $, because let's face it, they do not make a lot of money. Or better yet, donate money on their behalf....I'd love to hear that someone made a donation for student desks in Kenya, or a tree planted, etc. Or a Make-A-Wish child to have a dream fulfilled.
And 10 years ago....
*** Reminder: Cookies are a breakfast food in December. ***
*** I don't always quilt on the weekend, but when I do.....nothing else gets done and you're on your own for dinner. ***
*** Some people should use a glue stick instead of lipstick. ***
