SHQ Show & Tell

In just 132 days, (NYC Mayor) Mamdani’s record is being framed as a bold example of fast-moving, results-driven leadership. According to the claim, he closed a massive $12 billion deficit, showing a focus on fiscal discipline while still pushing forward with public services. At the same time, more than 100,000 potholes were fixed, giving New Yorkers smoother, safer streets and a visible sign that everyday problems were being addressed.

His administration also reportedly secured millions of dollars for gig workers, helping protect people who often keep the city moving without traditional workplace benefits. Corrupt landlords were hit with millions in fines, sending a strong message that tenant abuse and unsafe housing would not be ignored.

Snow workers also saw their pay raised to $30 an hour, recognizing the difficult work they do during harsh winter conditions. And perhaps most strikingly, violent crime is said to have reached historic lows.

Taken together, the message is clear: Mamdani is being presented as a leader who moved quickly, delivered visible results, and put working New Yorkers first.

Of course, tRUMP is against him.

Michael left for golf on Monday (5/12) and I headed to the studio to get my customer quilt off of the frame.  It took me quite a long time to fix all of the breaks, but finally I was done and trimmed off the edges.

This quilt was made with blue flower fabric that I had originally bought to do a One Block Wonder, but then decided it might have too few colors, and so I sold most of it to other quilters.  I haven’t seen a quilt made with it for quite awhile…..and it is just gorgeous!

I had a massage after that, and spent the afternoon at T_MOBILE and BEST BUY trying (and failing) to get any help with my blog/picture/transfer problem :~(

Michael and I had the leftover mac and cheese for dinner, and it was just as good as it was the first night!

I spent all day Tuesday (5/12) working on Sandy's friend Carol's potato chip quilt:

When she dropped them off, on Saturday, I told her I would not even look at them until my breakage problem was fixed. That meant that I might not even get them loaded before it was time for the end of her visit to Sandy. Since it seemed my breakage problems were over, I got the first one loaded up and wanted to work on it a lot...hoping to get done before she left!!! I was exhausted, but it was done by dinner time.

Janice is on her way to Connecticut to look at houses, so we didn’t video chat on Wednesday (5/13).  I took Carol's first quilt off of the frame and trimmed it, then loaded up her second one. I continued to work hard on it,

and by dinnertime it too was all done and she swung by to pick up both quilts.

Michael and I decided to have one of our favorite dinners….fish fillets stuffed with crab and a baked potato.  He gave a yell at one point when he was cooking the potato, and I headed out to the kitchen….he thought our fish was burning….but it was our potato bag in the microwave!!!  After many years of service….and a not very long time in the microwave….it was burning!!!!  He got the potato out and put the bag in the sink where I was spraying it with cold water….2 holes burned clear through front and back!  Well, that lent a little unnecessary excitement to our night….and a horrible burned smell to our house!

Thursday (5/14) was all about quilting…and I taught the first of a 2 part class on the arrow quilt:

We had some lovely show and tell:

I left shortly after lunch as I had to head down to the dialysis center again…and Loris told me how much she (and the participants) appreciated my quilts….that is always nice to hear.

When I got home, I talked with Laura’s hubby Dave, who gave me some pointers on printing some designs that are built in to my long arm computer, and then I spent a bit of time starting to layout the new HST blocks:

Michael had had a big, late lunch, so he wasn’t interested in dinner….so I just made a fried egg sandwich for myself and we settled in for the night.

And 10 years ago.....
