“I don’t know.”
— President Trump, when asked during an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press with Kristen Welker” whether he needs to uphold the Constitution, three months after swearing an oath to do so.
President Donald Trump has announced plans to rebuild and reopen Alcatraz to “house America’s most ruthless and violent Offenders.” In a post on his social media site, Trump said he was directing the Bureau of Prisons, the Department of Justice, the FBI and Homeland Security to reopen the infamous former prison. Located on an island off the San Francisco coast, Alcatraz closed in 1963 because it was too expensive to run. According to the Bureau of Prisons, it would take an estimated $3 million to $5 million to restore and maintain the prison — and that doesn’t include daily operating costs. Currently, Alcatraz serves as a tourist destination run by the National Park Service. In a conversation with reporters later Sunday, Trump appeared to downplay his post and said reopening Alcatraz was “just an idea” he had because of “radicalized judges” who want to ensure migrants being deported have due process.
So, basically what the POTUS is saying is that people should NOT be allowed to have due process when they are arrested! Do you get it? Is that enough like Nazi Germany to you yet?

Thursday morning (5/8) I was at the dentist for an 8 AM cleaning before heading to quilting. I had a wonderful time and we had lovely show and tell

-June received a 3rd place viewer's choice for this quilt

-Laura is on the ball with her first month finishes for our block challenge

-another disappearing 9 patch

and when I got home, I took a nap out on the lanair.
After that it was talking with Michael and starting/continuing to sew together the blocks that Michael laid out the other day:

I took a picture of my design wall before I headed upstairs for dinner around 7 PM:

I LOVE having such a large design wall that I can lay out 3 different quilts on it, but I think that might give anyone else nightmares!

My honey made me an egg/cheese/toast Friday morning (5/9) before heading out on a walk with Freya. I headed to the studio, determined to finish my customer quilt:

despite the breakage problem I was having. This is only the 3rd quilt it has happened on…..so I guess I don’t have a lot to complain about since I’ve now done over 700 quilts….but it is still mighty frustrating when your thread keeps breaking and breaking and breaking no matter what you try. But finally, the quilt was done and I got it off of the frame and all of the ends woven in:

I think the quilting on it looks great!
My honey started feeling a bit punky in the afternoon (he mentioned that the friend he had been with earlier in the week was getting over a cold...and he was afraid he might have caught it) and so it was wonton soup for dinner and TV watching in the evening and an early bedtime.

Michael got to sleep in a bit on Saturday morning (5/10) after he cancelled his regular golf with Phil, and I tried to keep the animals quiet and away from him so that they didn’t wake him.
I got a new customer quilt loaded up:

and after setting up the pattern, I kicked off the stitching:

I love it when a customer picks a bold thread color…and this one certainly qualifies….I hope she likes it when it is finished. I worked on that all day (I know she is hoping for a quick turnaround), along with continuing to sew together the 2nd Beds=Dreams quilt:

My honey was feeling really punky at dinner and wanted mac ‘n’ cheese, so I got that together and continued to work on the quilt….and by 8 PM, it was done:

I love both of June's quilts, especially the purple/lavender floral one! It is stunning! Your two customer quilts are great! The blue/peach floral looks so soothing and calm. I love the vibrancy of the orange and cream colored quilt. Beautiful!
Sue and charlie visited before the LANAIR!!!
Baby quilt looks even better with multiple blocks together! Bold and beautiful!
