We're at the point where the President of the United States is angry at the Smithsonian for telling the truth about slavery. If that doesn't tell you where this country is headed....YOU"RE NOT LISTENING!!!
During his campaign, Donald Trump openly embraced a platform of retribution against his political enemies. Even when allies practically begged him to swear off the idea of using the Presidency as a tool of personal vengeance, Trump was explicit about his intentions. This morning, the revenge vibes were strong when the news broke of an F.B.I. search at the Maryland home and D.C. office of John Bolton, Trump’s third first-term national-security adviser, who has since become one of his most frequent public critics. Details about the raid were sparse, but initial reports suggested that officials were looking for evidence that Bolton had disclosed classified information to reporters and in his 2020 memoir, “The Room Where It Happened.”
There is a certain awful predictability to the raid, Susan B. Glasser notes. In his first months back in office, Trump has made clear that his vengeful threats were not simply campaign-season bluster. He has stripped security clearances (including Bolton’s) and fired career civil servants for having ties to his opponents; he has demanded Justice Department investigations of them. “A worrisome indicator for how this will all turn out is how unabashedly Team Trump now pursues its vengeance agenda—they are no longer really even trying to hide it,” Glasser writes. I spent Tuesday morning (8/19) getting the QoV off of the frame. I used King Tut thread for quilting and it doesn’t go as far as my INNOVA thread…so I had lots and lots of ends to weave in….but at last it was done so that I can take it into quilting on Thursday for trimming. I also got a label stitched out for it while I was weaving everything in.
After that I spent time sewing the last of my re-found blocks from the design wall into rows.
Michael took Freya to the dog park for a long workout (she really needed it) and he brought crab sandwiches home for dinner.
He left for the movies after dinner and I knit the night away, while watching TV, on a hat for Clinton School. I’ll worry about how to get them there once I have a bag full!

Michael and I were both up at 5:45 AM on Wednesday morning (8/20). I made him a breakfast sandwich to take with him, as the tournament tee off time was 7 AM! I putzed around upstairs for a bit before heading to the studio to get a blog entry out and then load up another quilt:

Luckily, this is a quilt that I already put a label on the front:

I worked on that for the rest of the day, but the quilting blends in so well that you can't even see it!

Thursday (8/21) was all about quilting...I was THRILLED to finally finish the top I have been working on:

I was also thrilled that several of my students from the Chandelier Class last week had all of their blocks completed....and some also had them sewn into rows!
We had great show and tell:

And one other really lovely thing happened at SHQ. We have a relatively new member who, I think, is a relatively new quilter. Her son has been deployed for several years and she was excitedly telling us that he was going to be on his way home in a few months. I asked her if she had ever given him a QoV (Quilt of Vaolr) and she said ''no''. I had one from making it as a demo for my chandelier quilt class, so asked her if she wanted it for him.....She was thrilled and said ''yes''. Well, she finally got a chance to see him and give him the quilt:

And she was so grateful that when I got to quilting, she gave me a STUNNING bouquet:

a bag of snicky snacks....and a lovely thank you note! I was flabbergasted, but grateful...and very, very happy to have acknowledged another service member.
Oh....and one more thing....I got a mystery package from Leila on Tuesday:

Yes....she saw this Fiber Floozy t-shirt and thought I would like it...and I do!!!!!!!!
I stopped at the library on the way home.....so new books took care of the rest of my day :~).

I got a pecan upside-down cake baked Friday morning (8/22):

before leaving for my massage. I have to tell you a bit of a funny story about the cake. I first made this cake a year or so ago and my friend Pat happened to stop by with a friend of hers shortly after I made it. I can’t remember if they had a piece, or we just talked about it, but the friend was insistent that she wanted the recipe, so I sent it to her. I ended up stopping at her house a week or 2 later for some sewing related thing and she had made the cake and stated that it wasn’t very good and seemed to be blaming me! Anyway, it’s a very simple cake, but as she talked longer, I found out she made 3 significant changes to the ingredients, substituting for things she didn’t have…..well no kidding it didn't turn out the same!!!
After I finished my massage, I headed to Pineville for a bit of shopping. What was supposed to take an hour ended up taking 2-1/2 hours, so of course I got caught in rush hour school traffic on the way home. Good thing I got the cake done in the morning, as I had about an hour to do a bit of sewing before our guests showed up:
-Larry & Judy

-Carol & Ed

We had a wonderful and fun time and played TRIPOLI (a childhood game for me!) all night long!

We even had a prize for the winner (Larry) at the end and everyone said they really enjoyed it, and wanted to play again!
Michael and I read for just a bit after everyone left before heading to bed.
And 10 years ago.....
-(Pat - I totally don't remember knitting golf club covers for you!!!)Food and Fiber Floozie: flowers, Clinton School top, Pat & golf club cover
*** I'll never be OK with donut shops cutting a hole in my donut, then charging me separately for the same hole they robbed me of. ***
*** This tape doesn't even taste like Scotch. ***
*** Salons always have hair on the floor.....garages always have oil on the floor....banks, what is your problem? ***
I really love your rainbow quilt! It is so colorful and cheerful! All of the Show and Tell are great, but I love the Lucy and Me counted cross-stitch baby picture. Will you share the Pecan Upside Down cake recipe? It looks so yummy!
Banks are sooooo neat!! Darn!
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the rainbow stair step (is that the right name?). The border just makes the middle pop. What color are you planning for binding?
