Janice called me over to the window Thursday morning (6/15), there were 2 hawks in the backyard:
I have to admit…it was thrilling to see them.
We packed up all of our stuff and headed to quilting (while Michael left half an hour later for golf). Janice had such a good time at quilting, and I got 3 bindings made:
It is so much nicer to work on them at quilting, with everyone around talking and laughing. We had wonderful show and tell:
I asked someone to put their hand over this quilt so that you can get some scale....those blocks are probably 6 inches finished...and the pieces that make up each block are teeny, tiny!
BG - you KNOW I'm gonna make this one!!!
Janice and I left at lunchtime and headed out for Thai food (chicken with red curry in coconut milk with peas, carrots, bamboo shoots and basil):
After a terrific lunch, we had a few other errands and were finally home after 3 PM. Janice started working on her quilt again:
and Michael didn’t get home from golfing until 4:30!!!!! He said they stopped in some redneck bar after golf. The other guys like it because supposedly they have good beer (you couldn’t prove it by Michael…he and I have the same opinion on beer…..yuck!!!)
Janice worked until after 7 PM, and finished the quilting. I had a surprise gift for her….she loves sea turtles and has several pictures in her house. I had been looking for a nice x-stitch one for her, thinking I would get back into x-stitch. I finally found one I liked, about 2 years ago near Christmas time….I found it on ETSY and it came all the way from Germany. I couldn’t even start it because I could not locate ONE hoop in my house! My college roomie Debbie came to the rescue (she and her hubby are both prolific x-stitchers, and she mailed me a hoop!), and I got started. I only got a few stitches done before I realized that I had to copy the pattern in black and white so that I could cross out the parts I had completed with a yellow highliter. Debbie would ask me now and again how it was going….and I would answer truthfully, telling her ‘’it still has the same 17 stitches that I put in the first week’’. Unfortunately, I guess a lot of x-stitching is not in my future. Finally (I think Debbie took pity on me, not to mention that she is also friends with Janice and probably wanted Janice to receive this turtle eventually!!!) Debbie floated out the idea that Claude (her hubby) would be happy to complete the picture if I would like. IF I WOULD LIKE?!?!!? Are you kidding me??? I couldn’t leap fast enough, and soon enough, it was in the mail to Pennsylvania. So 2 years (that part was me), and about a week later (that part was Claude) it was done and on its way back to me. I tied it with a ribbon and gave it to Janice….SHE LOVED IT!!!:
She couldn’t stop exclaiming how beautiful it was, and I told her I was willing to turn it into a pillow, or frame it, or whatever she wanted. I think she’s going to take it home and audition it in a couple of places before she decides. So, that is a HUGE THANK YOU to my wonderful roomie and hubby for making this gift possible :~).
*** They say you need to listen to what your body is telling you…but mine just points and laughs. ***
What a lovely Show and Tell! I’ve missed all of you so much. I’m working on my blue floral beauty though!!
All of the quilt show and tell is great, but the quilt with the teeny tiny pieces is to die for! We are so glad Janice loved the sea turtle cross-stitch! We were happy to be a part of making this gift possible. Enjoy it Janice!
If you ever need hoops, I have lots from my free motion machine embroidery days. The turtle is beautiful.
The Janice story made me chuckle, chortle, guffaw, giggle, snort, yuk, ha ha, and laugh!
June's quilt looks like a neon sign!gorgeous!
