Thursday (11/7) was all about our Veteran’s ceremony at Scrap Happy Quilters…lots of food:
lots of guests:
a nice display of our quilts:
a short but moving program:
and finally clean-up and home by 2 PM.
I have to admit….this is one of my favorite meetings of the year for a couple of reasons. Every member one who comes is a ‘pitch in and do whatever needs to be done’ person. And, we all get there at our normal time….and we are usually totally done with the set up by 10:30 AM, and then we get to sit around and talk….just talk…about anything and everything….it is just so nice!
The guests come….we have a blessing….everyone eats…then we have the ceremony….a little talk about what Quilts of Valor/Honor are…the presentation…then a summing up…then our guests leave and we all pitch in to clean up…it is just wonderful!
I had a bunch of chores to get done when I got home, but finally collapsed around 3 PM, just vegging on the lanair. My honey got home around 4 PM…totally thrilled with his 86…write that down…86…it’s been a long time since he broke 90 and he was very happy. We talked for a bit and I got some energy back and headed to the studio to work on a few things. We both spent the evening in the studio, watching TV and sewing!

Friday morning (11/8) was a visit to the chiro for both of us. I got a chance to sit down and talk to him again about what was going on. I explained that by about 7 PM every night, I am staggering around…lurching from one piece of furniture to another piece of furniture to walk as the pain in my back is so bad. He gave me a stretching exercise to do every day and I am excited to see if it works :~).
My honey took me out to breakfast after that, and when I got home, I got another blog entry out before starting to quilt again. I got 2 more rows done on the QoV with only 1 thread break, which was due to the bobbin running out….YAY!!! And, we had a bit of detente while I was working:
I also continued to work on my disappearing 9 patches that I am doing for a class next year at Scrap Happy. We both had pizza for dinner (yes….still leftovers….only 1 more piece to go :~) and just tried to get through some of our saved TV programs in the evening.
And Pat made a GREAT towel (digitized it herself!) as a hostess gift for her Thanksgiving hostess:

Michael was off to golf by 9 AM Saturday (11/9), while I headed to the studio, determined to finish the quilting on the QoV….it was done by early afternoon:
and I spent over an hour weaving in the 40 thread breaks!!!
My honey came home around 2:30 and we talked for a bit before I headed upstairs at 3 PM to start my Elephant Chicken Soup. I completed my mise en place (a French culinary term that refers to the preparation and organization of ingredients and equipment before cooking. It translates to "everything in its place" or "put in place):
and started to make my soup. I also got the last loaf of Artisan bread made (doesn't it just look awesome?):
before Diane and Mark showed up at 6 PM. We had a wonderful appetizer & dessert (courtesy of Diane & Mark) and a good dinner before settling in to talking. The 4 of us talked about the vacation we are taking together later this year, then Michael and Mark enjoyed the new TV while Diane and I talked about the classes we are teaching at Scrap Happy next year….and how to solve the problems with my latest QoV quilt. It was a wonderful evening and after they left, Michael and I spent a bit of time reading before bed.
And 10 years ago...
*** I love winter fashion….am I wearing a bra?? Who knows? Am I wearing what I wore to bed underneath? Maybe. ***
We were and STILL ARE busy beavers
I agree! The Veteran’s Day Luncheon is also my favorite mtg. of the whole year !
