I got a bit of cutting done Thursday morning (12/21) before heading out. I dropped off more sugared pecans for my masseuse to share with her family over Christmas….and bags and bags of white trash, with a thank you note for the vet place that took care of Cookie for all of her life….before picking up Loree and heading into Waxhaw. We were heading for sandwiches at MAXWELL’s, but as we passed a Mexican place….she asked if I ever ate there…..I said no, as Michel doesn’t really care for Mexican….she said Reg doesn’t really care for it either….and after a quick “U” turn….here we are:
The food was terrific and we talked about lots of fun and happy things before heading back home.
I stopped at Hobby Lobby to look for the fabric I wanted on the way home….I had checked out the ad for this week and didn’t see that fabric was on sale, but I decided I just needed to suck it up and pay full price! Even if it is on sale next week….Monday is Christmas….Tuesday is craziness (no, I will not set foot in a store on the day after Christmas), so that would leave Wednesday to buy the fabric…and Thursday to deliver the quilt (since that is my next appointment)….cutting it WAY too close. Well, guess what? God was certainly with me as I found EXACTLY what I was looking for…..AND IT WAS ON SALE!!!!!
I headed home and continued to work on my blocks for the rest of the day:
except for heading out around the neighborhood to give out all of our Christmas goodies!
*************************************************
Friday (12/22) was all about sewing and I got all of my blocks put together and laid out:
I didn’t use any of the layouts suggested by the pattern….but Michael and I both liked this layout a lot, so that is what I’m sticking with. I wish my ''white'' didn't have quite so much going on....but I didn't have enough of the ''calmer'' white....so it is what it is. I thought the receptionist seemed to have a very ebullient personality, so I'm hoping she will love the craziness of this quilt.
Michael and I ate leftovers for dinner and settled in to start watching our Christmas movies with ELF leading the pack.
And sometime on Thursday or Friday (at this point I don't remember when), I got the binding done for the QoV:
this binding made for the receptionist quilt:
and these new (!!!!) chocolate peppermint ganache cookies made up for friends Gale & Phil. I think this recipe needs just a bit of tweaking and I hope to do that in 2024:
And now that the goodie boxes have been delivered, I can show a ''secret project''....you remember that my college roomie's hubby did that beautiful x-stitch for friend Janice....when I just couldn't get into it? Well, I decided to embroider a few cards for them to give away, so these went out in the goodies box:
It's 1967, HOLLYWOOD SQUARES is on…I'm 9 years old. My mom and dad are roaring with laughter and I don't understand what's so funny.
Q. When you pat a dog on its head he will wag his tail. What will a goose do?
A. Paul Lynde: Make him bark?
Q. If you were pregnant for two years, what would you give birth to?
A. Paul Lynde: Whatever it is, it would never be afraid of the dark..
Beautiful photos of EVERYTHING !!! You're a BUSY gal !
Wow 3x! What is that Quilt pattern? I love how the flowers really pop out almost like a dimensional cutout! The cookies look so yummy! The cards are beautiful too can this be a class in quilt group and that quilt too? Thanks for sharing! Oh I like Mexican too! Adela’s is on our side of Lancaster if you and Loree want to try it out sometime! My husband likes Mexican however I’ve only been with girlfriends at Lunchtime.
We LOVE the cards! Claude could not get over how beautiful they are. We really appreciate how special they are and love that you made them just for us. When my dad, who is 93 years old saw them, he kept saying, "Did she really make these?" He could not get over that you stitched the cards with a sewing machine. Instead of giving the cards away, we thought we may frame them together with the 'D' in the middle. We love the color combinations. Thank you so much!
Love the layout of the blocks for your quilt. They seem to take over and you do not notice the black and white as much. Your cards- Are those special patterns for cards and the technique, you will have to clue me in.
I think I like your blocks and layout better than the BQ pattern....very pretty.
